GPU Installation problem :/

Oh man -_- i had running nvidias in the system first with HCC (BOINC 7.0.28)...so now deinstalled all, driver cleaner in safe win mode, installed a new saphire HD7950 card but in gpuz it shows no shadervalues etc. BOINC say too there is no usable gpu found
:( tried 12.4 (with definite OPENCL Driver in it written on amd website)-12.8 all versions all same result :/ Wonder whats the problem -_- why why why i tried AMD again....

Its a WinXP 32 Bit machine, with a Quad and a brand 530W PSU.

Any troubleshooting solutions? :(

PS: oh had gpuz0.5.2 on the system and update option downloaded 0.5.4 version. but thats not the newest version i saw now...with 0.5.8 they solved a problem with the energysaving option from hd7xxx series. now i see values.. so the card seems not completly wracked ;) now i only must know why boinc wont run with it.. hm...

PS2: ok wanted to install the newest sdk 2.3 and while installation he say there is no opencl driver on it. what the heck. HAs anybody a link with DEFINITE openCL driver in it for xp 32? it seems not right what AMD wrote on there HP for 12.4 .... :/

Hi,

Try here version 2.7 of OpenCL SDK;

http://developer.amd.com/tools/hc/AMDAPPSDK/downloads/Pages/default.aspx

Hope that fixes it... :/

Re: GPU Installation problem :/

@kragnus: this is only for vista and up. and the sdk seems to not (re)install a opencl driver because 2.3 already say there is no opencl that it can use on GPU. ist must be in the catalyst installfile.

second link only links to amd back.

Re: GPU Installation problem :/

Hmm, just did some more research, found a thread on Seti forum which might help.

Apparently AMD stopped supporting XP, but some older drivers still do give support - not sure if they will work on your card, but maybe worth a try....

good luck !!

Re: GPU Installation problem :/

No that doesnt work, any driver <12.4 dont installing because he seems not to find the graphicscard.

i slowly come to the conclusion...this was a fail buy...Xp starts 7xxx support since 12.4...but they killed openCL drivers since 12.2 for XP....when i understand that correct :/ it doesnt help too, to install manual an extracted OPENCL package from cat 12.1additional (and for a try from the vista/7 package) to the cat12.4 driver. it seems not to regonize by system.. what a pitty -_-

Edit: i think i install win7 on that thing when nobody written something down here until evening who runs HCC with XP and HD7xxx..i have one licence lieing around at home..it was reserved for something else.., but its soo important for me to start this machine again crunching soon with full speed. i hope Win7 dont slow the low quad and 2GB ram too much for Crunching *sign*

But big thanx to Kragnus for trying to help me ;)

If you're using XP 32 bit you need to use driver 11.8. AMD dropped APP SDK runtime support in XP above that driver number and without that Boinc will not recognize your card. You can't install that runtime package as a stand alone. Search the web for older ATI drivers and you should be able to find it. If you don't I have a link on my computer at home and I'll post it. Make sure you completely uninstall the other driver first before trying to install 11.8

11.8 only works with 6xxx and earlier cards, not 7xxx-cards...

You are correct. I didn't notice the card model in his original post. He's probably SOL trying to run that card on XP unless there is some way to get that runtime package installed on a newer driver. He could trying installing the old driver and then updating to a newer one and installing it over top of the old one without uninstalling the old one. What is the lowest 12 driver version that will support a 7xxx series card?
