Dunno about AMD but the GTX580 certainly gets over-utilised it seems

I'm sure it does my 560M stutters when using the laptop. so I use it mainly at night for gpu crunching and cpu 24 hours
----------------------------------------but the 560M is only averaging a temp of 55c so living with that. considering purchasing an amd for my desktop i5 processor [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Oct 13, 2012 3:06:25 AM] |

OS: Win7pro 64-bit
BOINC version: 6.10.58 (official from WCG) GPU: nvidia GeForce GT 430 Display driver: 275.33 (maybe I should update this) CPU: Intel i5-2500 Sandy Bridge (monitor plugged into discrete card) ***NO CPU/GPU OVERCLOCKING(except Intel turbo boost) Like others, I set it to run only when idle because of the refresh rate issue. |

Hello pirogue Reference: pirogue [Oct 12, 2012 7:05:10 PM] post Any twitch of the mouse causes the WU to pause for x minutes and restart at the beginning. I surmise that the pause action causes the restart to zero. I recall this has been the case since beta. I guess there may be problems storing paused data to some memory (CPU, or GPU memory?) on pause and a mechanism to retrieve that stored data upon resumption from pause.Anyways, you indicated that you have an i7-2600K. I understand that the i7-2600K has an integrated-GPU. Have you tried hooking your monitor to the motherboard (to tap into the i7-2600K's integrated-GPU)? That should free your Radeon 5450 from having to render the UI-visuals (as that job would now be shouldered by the integrated-GPU) which in turn would free the Radeon 5450 to crunch the HCC-GPU-v6.56 WUs unburdened. ; I gave up and bought a new 7870. I went from >30 minutes to ~80-85 seconds per WU with no laggy-ness at all. I had gotten rid of all of my fast GPUs after we moved to outrageouselectricrateville. Now that air conditioning season seems to be coming to an end, I figured I'd contribute a little more to WCG for the winter. ----------------------------------------I had a EVGA 460GTX in my machine when I started the GPU WU and it was "pretty laggy"..not unusable for pure net work but you wouldn't want to watch a movie with the GPU WU running..Tonight I switched to a Saffire 5870 card and the :laggy" effect dropped noticeably. i7-2600, ATI 6950. At 100% utilization (8 cores @ 100% + GPU) the machine can only be used for posting how unusable it is. :)
Easily fixed for now by only allowing GPU usage when idle. Would be nice if WCG could take advantage of my GPU while I'm doing uninteresting things like web browsing though. |

Wandering here!
Running an i7 3930 at 3.8 GHz sharing 6 cores of 12. Two GTX 680 Super Clocked in SLI also contributing. While running one GTX 680 with this application and another project on the other at half capacity of the card, Vista becomes laggy and jerky with mouse movement very swimmy. I finished the job, aborted the pending job, and turned off this application in my preferences. The running GTX 680 was flat out at 1215 MHz and a full core was utilized on the CPU. Five cores were free during this problem. This one is not ready for prime time just yet. I run 16 projects shared equally on this machine, and none of them has had the slightest impact on Vista at any time. I am a gamer, and most games, not quite all, run just fine while these jobs are also running. Not so with this application. I hope you fix it soon. Then I'll take jobs from it as well. |

I agree snooze GPU while in use is not a solution. It's not fair to the apps to do run smoothly. (I do have application specific pausing. ie games). HCC makes the computer more "annoying" to use than unbearable. After making this most I will be suspending HCC but will check in often for a fix.

Hardware - Llano APU A8-3850 which has an embedded HD6550D Radeon core (queries in device manager as a Sumo 9640).
----------------------------------------OS - Win7 Home Premium It's only running one GPU thread. I wouldn't say it's unbearable by any means but there is noticeable stutter when moving the mouse for example - things that many people might find annoying at least. Were I actually using that machine, it would definitely be set to suspend while in use. ![]() ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by twilyth at Nov 14, 2012 2:27:13 AM] |
