choppy/laggy while gpu is crunching Same with me. With other Boinc GPU projects (GPUGRID or SETI), this is not happening. Win7x64, 8GB RAM, i7-2600k, GTX660Ti |

Win 7 64bit
----------------------------------------8GB RAM i7-2600K Radeon 5450 Pretty much not usable. P.S. Unchecking "Use GPU while computer is in use" is NOT a fix. The WUs take about 30 minutes on this GPU/machine. Any twitch of the mouse causes the WU to pause for x minutes and restart at the beginning. edit: P.P.S. I'm only running GPU tasks at the moment, so no CPU constraints. [Edit 2 times, last edit by pirogue at Oct 12, 2012 7:07:22 PM] |

If I untick "While computer is in use" and not set "Run based on preferences" i.e. it's on "Run always" in the activity menu, computing continues, but if I set "Run Based on preferences", computing stops. Just saying, this is identical for the GPU options and the need to set the related activity menu option.

Just saying, this is identical for the GPU options and the need to set the related activity menu option. If this was intended for me, I just checked Use GPU always on the activity menu. Unfortunately, that seems to ignore the unchecked "Use GPU while computer is in use" setting and still results in a laggy windows experience. |

Yes, that was for you, but the intend was for you to select "Run based on preferences" in the activity menu for the GPU. Just beyond me why that still would cause lag. To summarize:
In order to get rid of the lag during use: 1) In preferences *untick* the "Use GPU when computer is in use" 2) In the activity menu, GPU section, select the "Run GPU based on preferences". 3) Optionally, set a time under "only when computer has been idle xx minutes". No idea if "Leave Application in Memory when computing is suspended" has any effect on GPU tasks. |

That's how I had the settings configured before, including LAIM.
----------------------------------------Those settings don't cause lag because the WU stops processing. The problem is that the WU restarts at 0% every time I start using the computer. So, if I'm away for 29 minutes and then start checking email, 29 minutes is lost. |

Very little lag with my rig.
----------------------------------------Running a TV tuner, a light duty video game (IGT Slots- Diamond Galaxy), and my web browser while the WU's are running. Causes an occassional stutter on the TV tuner but the rig is 100% usable FX-8150 (@4Ghz), 8GB ram, HD7870, Win7 X64

Hello pirogue
----------------------------------------Reference: pirogue [Oct 12, 2012 7:05:10 PM] post Any twitch of the mouse causes the WU to pause for x minutes and restart at the beginning. I surmise that the pause action causes the restart to zero. I recall this has been the case since beta. I guess there may be problems storing paused data to some memory (CPU, or GPU memory?) on pause and a mechanism to retrieve that stored data upon resumption from pause.Anyways, you indicated that you have an i7-2600K. I understand that the i7-2600K has an integrated-GPU. Have you tried hooking your monitor to the motherboard (to tap into the i7-2600K's integrated-GPU)? That should free your Radeon 5450 from having to render the UI-visuals (as that job would now be shouldered by the integrated-GPU) which in turn would free the Radeon 5450 to crunch the HCC-GPU-v6.56 WUs unburdened. ; [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Oct 12, 2012 10:01:24 PM] |

No idea if "Leave Application in Memory when computing is suspended" has any effect on GPU tasks. It has no effect, since GPU-tasks is always removed from memory, except during benchmarking. "I make so many mistakes. But then just think of all the mistakes I don't make, although I might." |
