I like Windows 8 using a straight mouse. To me anyway, everyone has different tastes and likes, I really like Windows 8. It boots up very quickly and so far, it's working out great on my 3 computers but again, everyone has likes and dislikes and that's a good thing because it makes for a very competitive world that offers we consumers many choices. And most of us do like choices. I feel Microsoft has produced a great Operating System and Windows 8 makes it easy to maneuver within it's structure. The first time I tried Windows 8 I didn't like it but I wasn't used to using it but after a month, using the beta version from Microsoft, I really began to like it and it's blazingly fast using a mouse. I don't have to use my arms to reach and then "swipe" a "live icon" or what-ever. A very slick Operating System using a simple mouse.

And then there's Zune
----------------------------------------For my sins my works mobile is a Nokia Lumia of some variety with windows phone something or other on it - stupid rotating coloured tile thingies I might make a really nice mp3 player or camera as it's useless as a phone (Give us back buttons we could actually instead of virtually press to dial telephone numbers) Between me and this utopia is Zune You might as well build a brick wall between you and the content you would like to take off or put onto your phone I have a photo to share ..... been using a pc since the days of xtree gold and drivespace, like to think of myself as tech savvy. My boinc points score alone should shout Nerd Zune ???? It has to be bad when it's quicker to upload to skydrive over 3G. Log into skydrive on your PC. Download pic from skydrive ..than is is to connect your phone directly to your pc with a usb cable When this is the case, your design is wrong. Dear Mr Microsoft ..... Dave ![]() |

Specially for U, the OP quoted, with Highlight of what this thread is about... W8 tips and tricks!
Face it, your next off the shelf computer or laptop will have this latest OS on it and BOINC inclusive from v 7.0.31 or so has been made ready for the Metro-market. Not a place to ding MS, we know, we know all and every gripe in the book about MS products, this tread to share your tips and tricks to get other crunchers along, or learn something new yourself. This one for starters: The shortcut keys that are operational at the opening screen: Work Smart: Windows 8 Shortcut Keys: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=34770 A review for those that don't know anything yet of what's coming as of October 26: http://activewin.com/reviews/software/operating-sys/windows8/ P.S. Don't fear, you can switch back to the trusted W7 and earlier interface fairly easily. Bring it on. edit: Knew there was something about Oct.26... it's the launch day of the latest BOND franchise movie... an Adele theme tune coming? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7HKoqNJtMTQ |

I installed Microsoft Windows 8 (64bit) on two desktops and one laptop and it's running great. You can make it look like a Windows 7 system if you want. Now, yes we all know that the "start" button is missing but you know, it's kind of funny that the "start" button wasn't important at all, throughout all these many years, too many of the so-called "professional reviewers" UNTIL it was missing and all of a sudden....it's a critical thing now! No it's not!
----------------------------------------Windows 8 works great using a mouse. Very smooth, very stable and being fairly new, it always takes a while before many needed drivers for certain peripherals will be done for Windows 8, but again, I do not have any problems with Windows 8. The "Search" function is very quick and a very efficient tool to use. From the "Search" window you can type in a "C" (no quotes of course) and it will find the "Control Panel" for you and from this you can check and set various functions. Just like in Windows 7. I did not find that the learning curve was hard. I really like the way Microsoft set it up. Microsoft did a great job. I really like it! Microsoft are awesome
----------------------------------------I got an email last night from Microsoft with the Subject “Windows 8.1 Preview is here” With a link in it saying “Be one of the first to see what we’ve been working on. Check it out “ http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/preview Try pressing the “Get it now” Button Hint: It works as well as the non-existent Start Button on Windows 8 When you have cheesed off your user base don't give them extra Emmental with a slice of Gorgonzola Dave ![]() |
