Hi there,
I recently joined the World Community Grid and I believe I was told to follow these steps to start: Advanced -> Select Computer -> 'localhost' as Host Name. However, when doing this, I receive an error message telling me that the BOINC Manager is not able to connect to a World Community Grid client. Is this my problem or a server-side problem? And what can I do to remedy the situation |

Select Computer is connecting to the local core client boinc.exe . If that program or service is not running, then you cannot connect. Also if the installation was done as service [protected application execution], which is not default, but you did not choose "Allow all users", then only the system administrator is allowed to connect to the boinc.exe client. First check in the Windows? Task Manager as administrator if boinc.exe is running and confirm back how you installed BOINC, as user or as said service.

I uninstalled and reinstalled the BOINC client and it's now working to a further stage; it can connect now.
I don't know what happened before as I kept all options default during both attempts. However, it's fixed now and thank you for at least taking the time to help me out. I'll get my computer started on some projects now then :) |
