Re: Runtime increase for GO Fight Against Malaria by 90%

Have you ever selected a running task in BOINC Manager and hit the properties button on the left? That one of the ways to see checkpoints and when last one was made.

Oh I know when they checkpoint, although I wasn't aware of that method. These days I use BoincTasks just for that, and previously I had a file manager pointed permanently towards the Slots directory, where I would watch for changes in time last updated.

Nope, 10 hours plus, no checkpoints. The only consolation is that Rosetta says the longer running tasks of a batch are giving the best science results.

GFAM/DSFL/SN2S VINA tasks checkpoints fairly frequent, which should be visible in the checkpoint column of BOINCtasks too, or activating the <checkpoint_debug> log flag [See FAQ in Start Here]. Sample:

1154 World Community Grid 7-9-2012 6:39:23 [checkpoint] result SN2S_AAB68720_0000238_0239_0 checkpointed
1155 World Community Grid 7-9-2012 6:39:38 [checkpoint] result DSFL_00010-48_0000027_0019_0 checkpointed
1156 World Community Grid 7-9-2012 6:42:02 [checkpoint] result DSFL_00010-48_0000027_0602_0 checkpointed
1157 World Community Grid 7-9-2012 6:42:27 [checkpoint] result SN2S_AAB68720_0000238_0095_0 checkpointed
1158 World Community Grid 7-9-2012 6:45:23 [checkpoint] result DSFL_00010-48_0000027_0019_0 checkpointed
1159 World Community Grid 7-9-2012 6:45:56 [checkpoint] result SN2S_AAB68720_0000238_0239_0 checkpointed
1160 World Community Grid 7-9-2012 6:48:44 [checkpoint] result DSFL_00010-48_0000027_0602_0 checkpointed
1161 World Community Grid 7-9-2012 6:51:05 [checkpoint] result DSFL_00010-48_0000027_0019_0 checkpointed

If it does not, check the progress percent. No checkpointed+no progress, job stuck. If there is regular progress, maybe you unwittingly set the "Write to disk at most" or "Tasks checkpoint to disk at most" to some very high number. But, that works for all sciences at most all projects, except a few who ignore this setting. At WCG that is CEP2, by design. There are only 16 checkpoints of different intervals from minutes to hours for this science.

On Rosetta... can't help you here, nor there.

Re: Runtime increase for GO Fight Against Malaria by 90%

See a number of sciences have *silently* been given a cut in runtime [suspecting one or two more to follow, not having reached the hopper yet]. No fulminations tongue , which surely we'll see next time when the technical necessity arises to elongate them again, to stop the scheduler collapsing... proximately when the HCC tasks get packaged with 2 images to analyze laughing

Enjoy the Sunday [normal winter time] afternoon (far as I'm concerned they could make DST permanent cool )

Re: Runtime increase for GO Fight Against Malaria by 90%

SekeRob - thanks for the confirmation on the cut on run times. I noticed that a number of WUs I was crunching seemed to drop from the 10-15 hour range to 5-8 hour range over night in the past week. Hopefully that will help some of my wingman finish WUs instead of a number of them going No Reply after 10 days when the longer stuff was out there.

biggrin

SekeReb - Was CEP2 one of those who trimed down their WUs too? Just seeing if it is possible to add CEP2 back into my weekday crunching rotation with my DSFL and GFAM WUs.
