Re: Computing for Sustainable Water project nearing completion

All -- we are pleasantly surprised to see the project produce its final results soon. It's going to take a while to unpack all the results to start serious analysis but that will start next month.

Many thanks to all who contributed to the Computing for Sustainable Water project. We really appreciate the effort!

GPL UVa, as can be seen from above, you're not the only one who's pleasantly surprised as to how quick this project has progressed.

I know it's very early days (especially if you to start unpacking all the results before you can analyse what you've got), although is it possible to predict at this stage as to whether there'll be more work for us to crunch in the future?

Re: Computing for Sustainable Water project nearing completion

It's a surprise to me that CFSW will finish so fast, especially since haven't kept-up with the WCG-forums the last couple months.

But, then one of WCG's sub-projects ends early, it's not so surprising it's the project I've only got a bronze in. blushing

While reaching ruby is easily done, by my estimates 1 year should take 42 days while 2 years should take 67 days. worried

Re: Computing for Sustainable Water project nearing completion

I feel bad for the WCG techs who put all of the "backroom" work into the project to have it end in only 5 months.

So much for the WCG guideline that a project run for at least a year. Unless of course there is more work to come after the scientific analysis is finished.

Re: Computing for Sustainable Water project nearing completion

P.S. Felt it in my throbbing toe, so been running CFSW exclusively since the 64 bit version went up... need 14 more days [weather climate permitting].

I stopped running it on all 64-bit machines when I noticed (in results status) they were giving only ~10% as many points for the same amount of CPU time as the 32-bit operating systems give.

Not going to delve into your logic. My 64 bit's ran them 8 percent faster than the 4xfaster 32 bit's [A programmers achievement]. Not crunching for points, but they were quite the same-ish "per hour" or second of crunching... [WCGDAWS history] Whatever, I'll regardless of more / same / less continue till 2 years complete. Nothing altruistic, there's just more sciences that need help [and work to get them to 2 years], when CFSW is now guaranteed to finish in brief.

How empirical data translate to "logic" escapes me.

You provided no context to your comment and truly, I'm not going to look for what that might have been [nor trying to remember all and everyone's anomalous experience posts]. The mechanics of how server 700 computes device claim / grant means did that for a while, after the switch to the speed up versions. We're now 6-7 weeks on, so did you try again, and allow enough jobs for those means to adjust?
