I have a PC here that used to crunch fine but now will not. When Boincmgr is started it just sits there saying "connecting to local host" I have tried uninstall/re-install with no change. The Message tab is blank as is the Task tab. Boinc.exe seems to be running and it is configured as a service with 6.10.58.....? Cannot see anything in FAQ but this lappy is difficult to operate/see so any help would be appreciated

Hi Scribe,
----------------------------------------Just taking a stab at it: is your host still connected to your project(s) and/or account manager? I noticed something similar on a machine last week and that was the problem. Also, when you say the message tab, do you mean the "Notices" tab, or the Event log tab? If it's the first one, then I think you should try going to Advanced -> Even log and copy/paste everything you see in there for the gurus here to analyze. Good luck! Knowledge is limited. 6.10.58 does not have "notices", that is a later version. Ad I said above the message tab is empty so I cannot copy/paste anythingt. Also as I stated the Manager is trying to connect to the local host and does not and therfore there are no connected projects......(The task tab is empty and the project tab is empty)

My experience [which does not mean that it could not be different], says that if installing as service / PAE, the best route to take is to also select "Allow all users", or connect access could get denied. (The suggestion is in the FAQ's I can see ;>)
You with 10 years of crunching under the buckle by now would have discovered the use of the boinccmd tool [if BM connect fails], to tease out running information and know such mundane things as changing the BOINC default password as stored in the gui_rpc_auth.cfg file to something as human memorable [and put that same one on all you networked clients. Then Select computer, 127.0.0.1 + password becomes easy peasy. |

Oh, and if you can't see any messages... visit the stdoutdae.txt [daemon] file or stdoutgui.txt GUI files in the BOINC data dir.
