How does this news update effect the end date of the project?

regards,
Patrick

Re: HPF2 Project Status Update

Part of the text "We are a little sad to see the project ending in a few weeks, but we are also very proud of this project's accomplishments. Please read their latest project update for more details."

Of course the detail link is also provided in that article: http://bonneaulab.bio.nyu.edu/wcg/thread_2013_05_16.html

Commercial value of what we delivered to Dr. Bonneau... 37 million US. As a first known 'victim' of sequester, it's sad to see how science and education, the base of a developed society is being 'saved' on... short term thinking, long term impact.

Hope BTW this semi-final update lands at the very least in the much discussed 'Notices' tab of the clients, which >52% of the active members have adopted [those that have returned a result in the past 30+ days). As of this moment seeing no message in BOINCTasks manager, but then I've set it to only fetch them one time every 24 hours. Patrick will be able to tell us if it did land in the client since he was on queue to notify us here on the forums :D

edit: Just see the forum news was made official via an admin post: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread_thread,35127

Re: HPF2 Project Status Update

Well, just installed a pre-pre-pre test client build 7.1.1 and when it came up it went to fetch all the notices and up popped the HPF2 news. :D

Re: HPF2 Project Status Update

I've been really proud to run HPF2 (and gutted that it now looks unlikely that I'll get to 10 years - but that's a minor detail!). And I'm really disappointed that the project is finishing, although I understand the reasons.

If I'm right, when this project closes, there will be no projects on WCG targeting either cancer or the basic medical research like HPF was doing. That's something I think WCG needs to address, or I worry that the 'pulling power' for a lot of people is going to be lost.

Will keep watching the forums with interest, and will keep crunching HPF2 until the very end. Then - who knows what?

Re: HPF2 Project Status Update

Well, I, too, am sad to see that this is yet another project coming to a close.

My short-medium term goal was to reach Sapphire in this project (I'm currently at 104 days into that target), although that'll now not be possible - especially with GFAM due to finish in the very near future (my goal there, is Emerald - and as yet, I'm still not at Ruby level).

As SekeRob has pointed out, we seriously need a new project or two to start in the very near future.

Re: HPF2 Project Status Update

You did read the reasoning why the project was put forward to a close now did you not? Read the cart table and expect the deck to be changed out 'without' notice... just like in an Atlantic City casino. ;>)

edit: P.S. I've injected June 30 2013 as the joker into the deck :P
