Setting a "Resource Share" for WCG

I'd like to control the distribution of my system resources with WCG, as I can with the other projects I am running. Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a way for me to do this.

With the other projects, there is a "[project] Preferences" page which I can't seem to find here.

Can someone point me to the right place, or tell me there isn't one?

Thanks!

Re: Setting a "Resource Share" for WCG

Hi,

If you've been able to find the detail device profile preferences, look for "Project Weight". It's the same as Resource Share, default 100 share points.

edit: Maybe you did not find the path: My Grid > Device Manager > Device Profiles > Default (for starters) https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/ms/device/viewProfiles.do

Re: Setting a "Resource Share" for WCG

Why can't WCG set up things like virtually all other BOINC projects, using the same terminologies? "Device manager" is something specific to WINDOWS and I'd never have expected to find RESOURCE SHARE called something like "WEIGHT".

I think the work my computer does for WCG is very important but making it harder to understand and use lowers my interest by a significant factor. The beauty of BOINC projects is that it is effortless. Why spend so much time learning new procedures and understanding new technospeak that will most likely never be used again?

Re: Setting a "Resource Share" for WCG

You're the first that cant change it... so let's try again, via a slightly different route:

My Grid > Device Manager, which shows your computer(s) with the related device profile next to it. Click on the profile you wish to change, which is for beginners "Default" [because no others were created by user]. When you hit "Default" next to your computer, it will open a short list at top of preset profiles such as Standard, Minimum, where the 5th is "Custom". Hit that radio button and the profile expands. Scroll all the way down to "Cross-Project-Settings", where you see the Project Weight field, where a value can me entered from 1 to 99999. Mine is set to 500 since WCG is a multi-research grid.

Should you be looking for more profiles [School, Work, Home], you have to create them first via the first path I gave in previous post.

Let us know.

Why are we different? It's because like the bananas, WCG is older than BOINC. This agent was bolted on as a second choice at later date, and only to allow Linux users to join WCG [where BOINC originated]. Windows/Mac participation came later.

edit: See you edited your post while I was typing, suggesting you found the way to change it.
