How can one tell on Linux whether a beta is a 32-bit or 64-bit? I have received 3, all on machines running 64-bit Ubuntu. Suspend and resume work. The limited graphics work. Just an additional hint: The 32 bit will still carry the old version number and the 64 bit the indicated 6.26. System monitor [see post uplinger] and BOINC Manager task properties actually indicate which version is running. Of course BOINCTasks is the king of task management [run in wine or manage from windows client]... that has a version column so it's easy to see old or new... I'm getting a mix of CFCW 6.11 [as wingman / repair man only.... suffix _1 or higher] and 6.12, the 64 bit version. Was not there to fetch [watching 3D cinema projections on inside off eyelids], so cannot confirm. --//-- edit: Low and behold, the client was connected after the nightly off-line and 3 arrived, off 6.26. The BOINCTasks summary: 6.26 beta13 BETA_DSFL_000090-8_0000002_0376_1 - (-) 0,00 0,000 06:30:32 03d,15:29:45 6-7-2012 1:11:56 Ready to start 6.26 beta13 BETA_DSFL_000090-8_0000002_0616_0 - (-) 0,00 0,000 06:30:32 03d,15:50:49 6-7-2012 1:32:59 Ready to start 6.26 beta13 BETA_DSFL_000090-8_0000002_0826_0 - (-) 0,00 0,000 06:30:32 03d,15:50:49 6-7-2012 1:32:59 Ready to start With this science in particular, the varying in run time is so great, that it's very hard to tell if faster than the 32 bits. That statistic will have to come from the techs. [Edit 2 times, last edit by Former Member at Jul 6, 2012 7:46:48 AM] |

Looks like 5000+ according to the link. Received 12 so far. DOH! Don't know how I missed that. All that I received are valid or PV. Great job techs.

Looked for the one with the longest run time since last checkpoint [set to no more than 5 minutes minimum], fired up 64 bit System Internals "Process Explorer" run as administrator, and got this, which summarizes in SNAN... 0.140 seconds of kernel time :D

Only now realized that with the controller+worker structure of apps such as with VINA, the production worker has the same name as the beta, i.e., if you approved and made the security software remember your OK for the beta, the production version wont raise an orange flag. For windows thusly: wcgrid_dsfl_vina_prod_x86_64.exe.6.26
Avast gave no flagging this time ... set up a wcg*_x86_64.exe.* mask in addition to a F:\BOINC\* scan exclusion, so trust it worked as intended :D --//-- |

Thanks to everyone who provided different ways of checking for 32/64 bit in Linux.
----------------------------------------Two of my three betas have completed and validated (both 64-bit). The third should finish within the hour. |

Well,...
----------------------------------------Aren't those new 64 bit beta WU's supposed to be send only to 64bit capable (CPU & OS!) hosts? I got 7 on three different Windows 7 64bit machines, but one showed up on a 32bit Windows XP host? BETA_DSFL_000090-8_0000004_0829 Ralf |

Can't be!... As noted, this test was a mix of 32 + 64 bits. Follow various descriptions above how to identify. One is, v 6.25 is 32 bits, 6.26 is 64 bits. It's printed when the result is returned in the RS pages WU detail also which science version processed the task.

Can't be!... As noted, this test was a mix of 32 + 64 bits. Sorry, but I understood the announcement (just as the very thread subject) to refer to "64bit only". Hence my surprise...Follow various descriptions above how to identify. One is, v 6.25 is 32 bits, 6.26 is 64 bits. It's printed when the result is returned in the RS pages WU detail also which science version processed the task. Unfortunately, that's a no go. This is a remote computer to which I do not have remote access and I am not going to make an extra trip across town (Los Angeles!) on a Friday afternoon. And at this point, 2 out of three WUs from one of the 64 bit hosts have been returned and validated, the rest still shows "In Progress". Let's see how this plays out... Ralf |

Doesn't appear to be a problem but the badge hunter in me likes this one. Wingman hasn't returned it either. Ten others on the same server ran from 4.74 to 8.96 hours and they're all v or pv.

This beta test is going well. We are releasing more beta work units for the other two projects that use the VINA application soon.
Thanks, -Uplinger |
