Patrick, it's just a trick, to get out of the overflow woods... to temp switch to an upload/download hold state, which the client records as maintenance in progress. Once again, as it was observed by others too, it's appears to be more frequently occurring on Friday... what's the connection? Is it the tens of thousands of IBM worldwide internal machines flushing the completed work on Friday before weekend power-down? It's too coincidental. On hold yet again today. Patrick ![]() |

I can understand the frustration.
----------------------------------------But, especially because of the recurrent connection problems to the servers, I would increase a little bit the cache (1 or 2 days) instead to complain that the machines run dry. It is a simple and easy measure without any negative impact. Cheers, Yves |

Hi Kevin
----------------------------------------Is the schedule on the fix/workaround running more frequently than before? At the moment I'm on a dodgy broadband connection, soon to be resolved, but as for many others above it's getting a little bit irritating It would be nice to know how often the gates are opened and closed so that at least we would know by when our projects can be updated and our Work Units arrive and depart. What are the timescales looking like for when we can get back to business as usual? Cheers Dave Oh by the way if you do find a spare bucket of fairy dust tucked away at the back of the server room please apply liberally ![]() ![]() |

It's been six(6) hrs since my machines are left high and dry... I'm starting to feel some frustration and disappointment from crunching withdrawal. ; I have been having some problems with WUs getting uploaded and reported. What I have done is to go to Transfers, highlight a WU, and Retry Now. If this doesn't work for some reason, I wait an hour or two and retry again. When it finally does work, I go back to Tasks and see the WUs ready to report. I then go to Projects, highlight the project, and do an Update. The update will cause the WUs to be reported and also get new WUs to process. |

just a thought
----------------------------------------It's not an auto-negotiate instead of good old fixed full duplex somewhere in the mix? I've seen datacentres laid low for such apparently simple things in times gone by as I say just a thought Dave ![]() |

<joke>
There may be a need for a slew of new messages in BOINC to account for the idea of failure as an acceptable part of crunching-reality, or more exactly, to emphasize that non-failure is a luxury that can not be guaranteed for any duration nor at any moment. Existing BOINC messages in blue-colored text; new, in red. Error reported by file upload server: Maintenance underway: file uploads are temporarily disabled. Message reported by file upload server: file uploads are temporarily working. Project communication failed: attempting access to reference site Project communication temporarily working: confirming access to reference site Temporarily failed upload of <WU-name>: transient upload error Finished upload of <WU-name>: transient upload success Temporarily failed upload of <WU-name>: connect() failed Finished upload of <WU-name>: transient connect() success </joke> ![]() ; |

![]() If you can't fix it, feature it. <joke> There's another BOINC message that I can I think of: Project is temporarily shut down for maintenance ... and make the working phase/part as having a new BOINC message: Project is temporarily working being newly forced out from maintenance. (Hurry, before servers go down or much worse if maintenance personnel start to complain of overwork!) </joke> ; |
