Re: Beta test for Computing for Sustainable Water (June 5, 2012) Issues Thread

sad
I'm guessing they're all gone now...
You might have only just missed them sad. My last batch downloaded at 18:08 GMT/UTC and included BETA_ cfsw_ 0104_ 00104885_ 0--.

Thanks tonyh205
I did get one on a remote computer, after all, at 18:01 PM.
Might have better luck next time...

Edit: judging by what other participants have reported here, getting 1 is not too bad really

Re: Beta test for Computing for Sustainable Water (June 5, 2012) Issues Thread

Unless the Betas were downsized, they are extremely faster on my machine (mobile amd64x2, Ubuntu 11.10, Boinc 6.10.58 64 bit):

BETA_ cfsw_ 0100_ 00100113_ 1-- Ganymedix Pending Validation 6/5/12 16:46:42 6/5/12 18:21:45 1.54 21.2 / 0.0
BETA_ cfsw_ 0100_ 00100975_ 1-- Ganymedix Valid 6/5/12 16:46:42 6/5/12 18:21:45 1.54 21.2 / 21.8

cfsw_ 2877_ 02877380_ 0-- Ganymedix Valid 6/3/12 12:34:37 6/4/12 08:01:01 14.93 109.8 / 109.8
cfsw_ 2877_ 02877497_ 0-- Ganymedix Valid 6/3/12 12:34:25 6/4/12 07:22:26 14.35 105.6 / 105.6

Another 8 on mobile core i7, Mint Lisa, Boinc 6.12.33 64 bit: estimated 2.25 cpu hours total run time
Another 8 on the same machine, mobile core i7, Windows 7, Boinc 6.10.60 64 bit: starting soon (usual run times 11.5 - 12.5 hours)

herna, the introduction post *clearly* said that these were a rerun of old tasks to be able to compare with new results!

Re: Beta test for Computing for Sustainable Water (June 5, 2012) Issues Thread

Only got 2 but wow! 0.66 hours for both. These normally take 2.5 to 3 hours to complete on this system.

Ran them thru the drill at 17% completion and only issue observed was they had not check pointed yet so they started over again after reboot. These things ran so quick, they probably don't need to check point.anyway.

Phenom II x4 3.0 Stock Clock, Fedora 16 x86_64

Edit: Spell Check

Funny, but if you have set the "write to disk at most" at e.g. 600 seconds, then 17% of .66 hours would not have saved a checkpoint. They really do happen [see my post up in this thread]

Re: Beta test for Computing for Sustainable Water (June 5, 2012) Issues Thread

I rebooted the Win7/64 i5 during the 3rd batch of 4 workunits that I downloaded. They all completed in 44 minutes and 2 have already gone Valid, so restarting from a checkpoint seems to work ok.
The 2nd one on the WinXP/32 Athlon64 completed in 70 minutes and is Valid.
Congratulations (as Sir Cliff Richard would say) on a very impressive speed-up.

Re: Beta test for Computing for Sustainable Water (June 5, 2012) Issues Thread

Received 5 BETA's on my intel i5-3570K running windows 7, all finished much quicker than other CSW jobs on the same machine, .44hrs versus normally 1.8 hrs. Didn't get any jobs for my laptop running Vista, might have been interesting as CSW jobs on the laptop run very slow if they run, usually 12+ hours. 1 beta job has validated, others are all PV. Looks like a super job at creating code that runs faster.

Re: Beta test for Computing for Sustainable Water (June 5, 2012) Issues Thread

[I forgot], did anyone at all look at the memory use that some were previously lamenting as high? Just curious if this changed with this 3-4 fold speedup.

thx
