Xzer, a bit manual per-machine-solution's also there.. in the BOINC client there's the "to completion" column, which tell you how much time each task is expected to take, you could sort your tasks using that, and maybe highlighting the ones that are too long for you, and aborting them (which will send them back to the servers, and bringing you new ones).
