Valid points indeed. Still, not much point putting a turbocharger on a Yugo either. WCG has always been tight on "resource". Will we get GPU? Most likely, yes (I venture its chances far better than the conversion from points to credits). When? Eventually. Until eventually gets here, we still live in a CPU WCG-world. Whatever CPU machine one ends up with, retaining the ability to easily drop in a GPU card is a point to be remembered.

Which Xeon processors would you get?

Dr. Mike

Depends on how much you want to spend. $210 for a quad with no HT to $2,000+ for an octocore with HT (that's 16 threads per CPU).
Here's a Newegg link to give you an idea of what's available.

The key is when. If it is in a month, then you need to save all your spare change for a GPU. If it is next summer, then you need to go ahead and spend that change on CPUs. Your guess is as good as or perhaps better than mine. confused

Your job is neat. You get to go and stay places without having to work 18 hour days. (I used to travel a lot but the days were grueling and only lasted two or three days...never got to see the place).

Everyone make today that "someday" you have always talked about. (Or at least do it real soon!). smile
