Re: smilesmile Join "MyOnlineTeam" Today - Chapter 57 smilesmile

Anyone out there? :(

What video cards are required or recommended for GPU tasks?

Dr. Mike

Mike, it varies by project. Basically, there are two types of video card that projects may use for GPU crunching - ATI and NVidia. Thinking ahead to your super-crunchers, I'm inclined to say get them with the ATI card and try to have a spare slot for a second video card. I think I need to do some digging to see what projects offer GPU crunching with what cards. My impression is that ATI is the easiest to start with and NVidia seems a liitle more complicated/problematic.

coffee coffee coffeeGood Morning MOT coffee coffee coffee

Congratulations dkt! applause

I am not sure which of the two types of GPUs that Keith mentioned will do more here at WCG. I am in a hold pattern about getting anything else in GPUs till I hear more. Right now I have one machine with a big GPU. It is a Nvidia GeForce GTX 580. Hopefully it will be useful in the search for a cancer cure.

Everyone have a great Thursday! smile

Re: smilesmile Join "MyOnlineTeam" Today - Chapter 57 smilesmile

Dr. Mike,

I am posting from my Lay-Z-Boy in the living room. And I have 4 machines with a total of 12 cores. I see you have been generating around 21K points a day. With that earlier description you gave of the machine you got for crunching, I would have expected you to get quite a few more points per day.

Also, I have my systems set up to let Windows do the updates automatically on Wednesday night and that means I have to check every Thursday to see if I need to complete a reboot. I did get a Norton Internet Security update this last week for which I had to do a reboot.

Are things still quiet where you are working in the ER? It seems, based on the last time I went to the Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital here in California, that they always seem to have quite a load in the ER.

Re: smilesmile Join "MyOnlineTeam" Today - Chapter 57 smilesmile

dkt,

I just started re-crunching a couple of days ago. I also one morning forgot to change windows updates from automatic install. :/

As far as points, don't know if i've normalized yet. I know I have some units in PV jail.

What video cards are required or recommended for GPU tasks?

Dr. Mike

ATI cards will be better suited to run the WCG GPU tasks because ATI has far superior driver support for OpenCl. Nvidia cards will work just fine but ATI cards will generally be more efficient.

I have an AMD Radeon video card..6870

Dr. Mike

You should be good to go. wink
