It seems that anything suggested to be added or improved at WCG that doesn't improve an existent app or bring another project on board is deemed wasteful and unworthy. This is not the intent at all. However, we have fixed resources to commit to working on a very large set of ideas and enhancements. Thus we have to prioritize. It isn't only ideas suggested by the volunteers that haven't made it to the top of the priority list, the tech team has some personal favorites that we want to implement that also don't make the priority list. Some of the key questions we use to determine priorities are as follow:
We have been spending a lot of time recently on the first two items. We are hoping we are nearing a point where there is less work for the 2nd item for awhile which will let us focus on some of the items for the last 3 items for awhile. This topic was resurrected on our Facebook page. I am adding the same comment here, that I posted there: We recognize that some people would really like this feature and we have added it to our 'to-do' list. However, our 'to-do' list is very long and we have to prioritize where we spend our time. In this case, this item, while desired by some volunteers, is a nice to have feature vs something that inhibits volunteers from getting research done or a feature that advances the research that is being run at World Community Grid. As an example, we are currently changing Say No to Schistosoma, Global Online Fight Against Malaria and Drug Search for Leishmaniasis to run with reduced redundancy so that more workunits can be completed. We are also close to resolving the issue that is making Computing for Sustainable Water run slow on Windows XP (and our findings with this issue may result in the project running faster on all computers). Please understand that we are not dismissing your request - but we do not have unlimited resources. And I will again say that 5 1/2+ years of people asking for this is ridiculous. A few months.... a year.... is one thing. More than 5 years? ![]() |

Did WCG ever really say how the Jeopardy money was dispersed? I know it was supposed to support the sciences, but never really heard an official break down. I'm sure $500,000 could go a long way.

Thanks for filling in for that query.
Whilst, I've asked the bank manager again to sponsor 5 grand for a little pet project [crunching] I would host for them. Been asking for 6.5 years and I am still banking with them [because their overall service quality and value has no equal... they do care and are very competent, without question]. ;>) --//-- |
