I have a small group of computers that have been participating for about two years.
This is the kind of thing where once it is running, thre is little to do. For me, I occasionally check in to see that all systems are checking in. Other than that, I tend not to fix what isn't broken. Well... one of the systems finally broke! LOL I've got it back on line and reinstalled Boinc. My problem; its been so long since I've typed the user name and password that I can't get the system back on the team. I've tried the password recovery options but apparently, I'm providing the wrong email address to send the info to. Is there any way I can add this system via World community grid? |

Hi, Are we to understand that the member you're wishing to register the device to is different to the name you're posting now? Normally, if you go into the client, do the "add/attach a project" routine, select WCG from drop down, and tick the box that you're already a member (yes, existing user), all what's needed is the member name [you're posting as] and the same password you signed-in the forums just now. From there on My Grid > My Team and the screen offers to Join a team, but if the device is attached to WCG already, then it's automatically also joined to the team of the account with which you've registered the client to. There are backdoors if the registered account is different to NickFranzo, that are: 1) To copy the account_www.worldcommunitygrid.org.xml file from a connected computer to the BOINC data directory of the new install. (Path printed in BOINC Manager Event/Message log near start) 2) To open a DOS window (terminal), navigate to the C:\program files\BOINC or C:\program files(x86)\BOINC depending if your OS is 64 bit and the client is from the WCG download page. Then type the command: boincmd --project_attach www.worldcommunitygrid.org account_key The account_key is found on the My Grid > My profile page near the bottom: https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/ms/viewMyProfile.do . Also it is found in the account_www.worldcommunitygrid.org.xml file point 1) above in the <auithenticator> line. I've just confirmed the function of the command and it gave me the response "error -130 already attached to project.", surprisingly, even when I made a typo in the url suffix. Visit the BOINC Manager to see if WCG is now attached. If not, boot the computer. Let us know, or proceed to "Contact Us". Response could take a while (or you get bumped back to the forums if they're real busy ;>). --//-- P.S. Trust all your computers are password protected too :O) [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at May 14, 2012 8:31:15 AM] |
