<RESOLVED> HELP - How to move data from one PC to another PC to upload to WCG?

I have an Windows XP system running BM 6.12.34 (x86) that can not communicate with the web or other PCs on a local network. The system has four CFSW jobs (WU) that took about 20 hours (each) to run. All have finished and have been trying to upload with out success. Is there any way I can save to a flash drive and restore to a Win 7 pc running BM 6.12.34 (x64) in order to upload? I'm sure magic is involved but I have not a clue. Any help will be appreciated. The dead line is about 17 hours from now.

Thank you in advance.

Sorry, but BOINC is designed to prevent this. It is too difficult to be practical.

What you want to do is what I tried to do at the end of a several weeks long sneakernet series. Work fetched by one host [a duo], copied via a USB stick [complete BOINC data dir] and crunch on another [8 core] that was not set up yet to internet. When it was, and did connect [sitting in an airport lounge], the completed / reported tasks were taken on the first connect [CEP2 jobs going to Harvard, but fetched from Toronto], then the WCG server figured out the host was an imposter duplicate on different hardware and WCG did the server aborted for the remaining tasks [the server determined the tasks were never assigned to that host]. So here I managed, one host under one ID fetched jobs and it got logged on the RS pages as reported by a different device (different numeric host ID). Like Vasili had "one ping only", you have one connect chance to fool the servers [it still thinking the old host is reporting]. Message being: Tasks fetched by 1 device must be reported by the same device or they will get binned.

Actually there is a surefire way to do this, but it is a lot of hassle and impractical for a continuing basis. Remove the hard drive from the machine which is not connected to the internet, and install it as the master drive in the machine which is connected to the internet (after disconnecting the hard drive in this machine.) Once you boot up the machine it will for all intents and purposes appear as the machine which crunched the work units.

In the future if you wish to continue to use the non internet connected machine to crunch, you could install BOINC and an OS on a secondary bootable external drive of some sort and just move it as necessary to an internet connected machine and booting from the external drive when you wish to upload and download. Might be more trouble than it is worth.

BTW how did you get BOINC installed and the workunits downloaded if you were not connected to the internet ?

Hope this helps.

Cheers

Re: HELP - How to move data from one PC to another PC to upload to WCG?

It was connected until recently. When I try to ping the gateway I get the message "Destination host unreachable." The PC is directly connected to the gateway via Ethernet and can access the configuration software. All other PCs connect via wireless adapters and can talk to each other and access the internet.

RESOLVED - I turned off my fire wall and all WUs uploaded and even downloaded more. Firewall is back on while the PC crunches and I get it fixed.

Thanks everybody for getting me to think.
