I would like to add my two cents into this discussion.
Too bad World Community grid.org could not be shorten into wcg.org - Solving Humanity problems thru PCs. The sticker would have to be concise, short and to the point. Drivers have very limited time to read bumper stickers. How about a WCG promotion drive through universities and colleges. They have multi core CPUs and run their PCs 24/7. They could do some serious number crunching with no additional operating cost to the university. I myself found WCG by accident. I was running SETI@Home but I wanted to use my CPU cycles on solving more earthy issues. Clive |

Clive MOST people started crunching thru Seti, some of us have moved on others have just branched out and still do Seti. Seti is a PR machine while the other projects are not, making it harder for the other projects to get lots of users. Word of mouth is how most of us find other projects and thru stats sites. If you go here http://boincstats.com/en/stats/-1/user/detail/2243770/overview I think that is you. If you click on your stat in the World, it is near the top and right this minute says 53,839 out of 2,466,471, you will see a long list of other people you can click on and see what others around you are crunching with their pc's. There are other sites too, under Your Account on the Seti page you can see them, I do not know if you can do that here at WCG. ![]() ![]() |

Hello everyone,
my recommendation as far as the text of the sticker is concerned would be: Make it as easy as possible. Leave away any computer words. Chose an illness (project) everyone knows. So in the end I would chose: Cancer fight without money: www.worldcommunitygrid.org. Your help is needed!!! Cancer and www.worldcommunitygrid.org in red ink reflecting at night. Of course, its just a recommendation. All the best to everyone Kafejka |

All the best to everyone Kafejka I just did a simple search and found that WCG.com and .net and .org are taken but if WCG could buy something with just WCG.? then that would be both easier to remember and shorter on the bumper sticker. Of Course it would just be an entry site leading to the spelled out regular site. And something I might change is the wording in the first part: instead of "Cancer fight without money" I think it might be better to say "fight cancer with your pc, JOIN US at WCG.?", or maybe even "fight diseases with your pc, JOIN US at WCG.?" ![]() ![]() |

Actually in my country there is a PC fair, I think four times per year. These are the fair where hardcore computer modder (and everyone else, now that they also employ both babes) attend to buy new / upgrades hardware.
----------------------------------------I once email a company to just let me gives out flyer legally from their booth. But sadly, this company is unlike their American counterpart. Sadly, these event focus more on gaming, online gaming and audiophiles. Too bad. Truth is today PC is so powerful and yet some people only use it to surf the net and write emails, and back-up their digital video or pictures. I think this is way better since we have targeted audiences (these people know how to overclock and edit bios, etc). Oh well... |

Talk is cheap, when are we going to get the ball rolling on getting these stickers printed and promoting awareness of WCG and what it does?

Someone at WCG could easily put something together if they wanted to. I just pulled the images from the widget creation page and made these examples in just a couple of minutes with Paint.NET.
![]() ![]() If you were to use a clear background on the first, it would probably be better to use black text as the grey would be hard to see. |

I just did a simple search and found that WCG.com and .net and .org are taken but if WCG could buy something with just WCG.? then that would be both easier to remember and shorter on the bumper sticker Unfortunately, you failed to complete your research in order to discover the outrageous cost users are expected to pay for a TLD like .WCG. Have a look before you start suggesting this idea to anyone. |
