Re: Welcome to the Computing for Sustainable Water project!

We are tracking the comments here. We really do appreciate every one's participation. As ry99 said, this is new to us too and we're anxiously waiting to process the first results (recently received the first batch).

I'll be more communicative!

The Cheasapeake Bay Watershed covers parts of six states (NY, PA, DE, MD, VA, and WV) plus Washington DC. NJ is in the Delaware Basin.

I am using all of my computers for CFSW and I use the WCG graphics for the screen saver graphics. The graphics for CFSW use various colors to describe the nutrient level. The graphic states 'The color scale shows the overall level of combined nutrient quantities aggregated by the respective land regions, as they change over the time span being simulated."

Huh? What does this mean? What are the combined nutrient quantities? My son asked me what this meant and I could not provide an answer. Can any of the scientists provide an answer I can use to describe what the graphic is all about? Or can any of the WCG crunchers provide an explanation?

Re: Welcome to the Computing for Sustainable Water project!

Hello dkt,
Searching for an answer only took me to 'missing web page' notices. The WCG simulation is supposed to be more detailed than the uVa Bay Game, which looks different. Perhaps your son might be interested in taking a glance at http://www.virginia.edu/baygame/

Re: Welcome to the Computing for Sustainable Water project!

When referring to nutrient in water the term referrs to just about any compond that will feed some organism.

Obviously nutrient needs to get into all water systems if life is to exist there.

The problem comes in when the nutrient content of the water entering a body of water, above or below ground, is out of balance. That is what they are talking about.

The project has a pretty good over view of what they are doing;

This is a better, more detailed treatment of the subject;

Aren't kids a pain. Asking questions you can't answer. Hopefully this kind of behaviour will continue.
