There is still no definite answer to this important question. There seem to be many disagreements about it in the scientific community, as you will find out if you google it. Research seems to be ongoing with no obvious conclusion in sight.

Another dimension of the concern aired by the OP is the aspect of dataSecurity: how do the good guys ensure that the bad guys don't get access to sensitive research material?
