Re: Updates for DDDT phase 2

Especially, when will there be workunits for Windows, which has had rather few in the past?

Or would you rather offer a way to install to install BOINC under Cygwin under Windows, without interfering with a Windows version of BOINC on the
same computer? That would gives a more general way to run Linux-only workunits under Windows.

IF you have 64bit Win7 Ultimate, I do not know what other versions work too, you can setup a virtual box and run Linux inside it, or is that what you mean by Cygwin? I have run other Boinc projects alongside each other this way, but they do NOT share the resources. You must dedicate the desired resources to the virtual box.

I'm running Cygwin under Win7 Pro. It is a Linux emulator that runs under Windows. Not a virtual box, though. Dedicated resources not required.

Looks like I'll have to install a browser under Cygwin before I can have a try at installing BOINC under Cygwin, though.

I've found a few free virtual boxes that I'll try if it doesn't work under Cygwin, though.

Or save a lot of effort and read the dozens of posts on how to get workunits, guess what, need to follow the same steps in Linux to get work.

PS I only run windows boxes and am about 200 days away from saphire.

Looks useful AFTER BOINC is installed, but does not appear to offer any help for installing BOINC under Linux in the first place.

I also run only Windows boxes, but have seen no sign that I will ever reach bronze for DDDT2. Already at ruby for many of the other projects.

Is there a way to ask the server how many workunits it currently has available for DDDT2?

No, but the answer at this time is 0, you do understand that this project only runs in bursts and spurts? You have to chase them when they are available, usually 3-6 months between bursts ;) with only a day or 2 notice and only lasting 2-3 weeks if you are lucky. If you are not paying attention when they come out, you lose, is that simple. A types (few) make B types (also few) make C types (Lots) usually about 10 days between types, next expected is A types

Re: Updates for DDDT phase 2

Hi Robert,

Yes, i'm using only Windows 7 x64 now...

I'm in process of starting a small farm dedicated to WCG projects (So far i got 2x Quad Cores and a Dual core running 24/7), but i'm planing to expand and aquire 3 more pc's next couple days, those will be the new AMD FX 6100 processors and a small Pentium IV 3.0ghz HT to make a Server for diskless installations for the 3 new Hexa cores, those will be running linux...

Thanks for the info on shortage of W7 DDDT2 wu's ^^

BE CAREFUL, I have a Ranch, 13 or more pc's, and can tell you the electric bill is EXPENSIVE!! I currently spend about $600US PER MONTH on electricity in my all electric home here in Virginia, USA. That is MORE than double what my neighbors pay!! And our homes and families are similar sizes, as in 2 adults no kids!

Back to DDDT2...I too am hoping for more units soon!

You may want to hire an electrician for this

1) Get a clamp-on ammeter

2) Turn off everything you can (including shutting down all computers)

3) Remove the cover from the electric panel

4) With the breakers ON, check each wire connected to a circuit breaker with the ammeter, one-by-one...

if you find any that are drawing more than 1 amp, trace them down and find out why they're still drawing power.

It's possible to have a 'hot' wire barely touching a neutral or ground, enough to constantly draw, say 3-10 amps, which is not enough to kick out the breaker, but would produce a bill like you're seeing, and could be isolated from flammables enough that it's not starting a fire (YET) either.

Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) breakers would detect if that was happening to a ground wire (but not to a neutral), and Arc Fault Circuit Interrupter (AFCI) breakers *should* detect if a hot wire is touching a neutral OR ground, but AFCI's are not widely used yet, and most houses that have been upgraded were retrofitted with GFCI outlets, not breakers, which would not detect a ground fault problem between the circuit breaker and the first GFCI outlet on the circuit.

edit: changed "Check" to "With the breakers ON, check"

Re: Updates for DDDT phase 2

Before following ZoSo's recommendation, just turn everything off and see if the electric meter is still registering usage. If if is, you can turn off breakers to see what circuits are still drawing power. You may have some hard-wired devices that you cannot shut off.

Cheers coffee

Re: Updates for DDDT phase 2

Yes, I agree with you NixChix, maybe everything is normal in mikey159b's home. My personal example : I have two i7 and one i5 running 24/7 at home (and an additional i5, the laptop that I use for my job, during the nights and the week-ends). With this configuration, my electric bill is more than the double of what it would be if I shut down all my machines.

Yes, let's hope we'll have a new rain in December or January (with 310 points, I hope the next rain will give me the emerald badge wink ).

Re: Updates for DDDT phase 2

Dear Members,

I have been in the process of validating the Free Energy of Binding code after solving the issues that came up with - the molecular dynamics software version, the parametrization of ligands code, etc. Now, I have given 8 co-crystal's alpha-test and after they are done, I will submit the 2000 ligand GSBP calculation for the pre-run calculation shortly.

I really appreciate all your help. I will also update about the paper that I am drafting currently on dengue virus and a portal that we have developed in collaboration with TACC soon.
