At those TDPs, stock-cooling should just work - no problems. So is there a catch? Lawrence |

It's on the planning board to replace the Q6600 desktop, whenever they arrive to our outback shops... giving it 12 months, as that is our approximate lapse time for new technology to arrive. --//-- |

Well they are out and about for a while now...
----------------------------------------I built my 4th comp with an IB chip (3770K). But it's on air and my 2600K is on liquid so OC to 4.2 I think the 2600K will still take it. I have a 2500K (on air) that gets about 25K PPD, while my 2600K gets about 40K PPD. Should I replace the 2500K chip with a 3770K? I know for run time it's worth it...but 350 bucks is it a good idea??? Edit: What has anyone gotten for points with stock 3770 or 3770K? ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by Jack007 at Jul 14, 2012 7:31:37 PM] |

FWIW I still think the 2600k is the best bang for the buck for crunching. Especially now that the prices are coming down after the IB intro.

The main interest for me is this part:
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/ivy-bridg...ore-i7-3770k,3181-23.html That's 8 threads v 4 threads compared to my Q6600 (of near oldest generation). |

Also the power improvement,
----------------------------------------again either SB or IB improvement, but I'll take IB at 77 TDP. I may wait for haswell for my last upgrade. (the 930). I'll read up and see if there are specs/guesses out yet. Ugh running into the 70s on air... turned it down to 6 cores, low 60s now. ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by Jack007 at Jul 18, 2012 2:25:03 AM] |
