Re: Tasks are committed to other platforms

I'm a little confused here. My box is running WCG and WCG alone. Well, anyway, on with my updates:

- I added a GPU project (Collatz@Home) to test my GPU temperature. It connects and crunshes WUs fine. That's good news, because if there was any way of anyone doubting that my GPU + Boinc setup works, it is now removed :)
- It's possible BOINC/WCG will just request more work later and I'll get GPU tasks. Lets hope so :)

As for my properties window, it is transcribed below. Note that this is after I added Collatz via BAM and resynchronized. (I'll delete it when I get HCC GPU WUs :))

Thanks guys for all the help.

Re: Tasks are committed to other platforms

Seems you client at this time is not interested to get more CPU tasks... suggest to sit it out as the mentioned madness could have upset control values not printed in the properties screen. Your DCF though indicates that tasks run nearly 2x longer than estimated.

Okay, I'll sit tight and see what happens. I'm not sure what the DCF could mean. I guess we'll see how things play out.

Cheers.

Re: Tasks are committed to other platforms

Also suggest that you check and be sure that box is signed up for BETA as that is the only way to get GPU wu atm

Re: Tasks are committed to other platforms

You said you changed your cache from 7 days to 1 day. If you did that, it wouldn't ask for any work at all for your cpu until your cache went under 1 day. Til then, it just won't cuz it knows it has way more than 1 day of work to do. That part is simple.

Now if you already crunched those extra 6 days of work, then perhaps some of those reported work units took longer than the scheduler figured they would and thus the 1 day is really 1.x days yet, due to the automatic adjusting that happens. When the current cache goes under what your cache setting is, then it will request new work for your cpu.

Or none of this could be the case, if I've misunderstood what you asked.

Re: Tasks are committed to other platforms

The DCF is Duration Correction Factor. That's a number that hopefully stays as near to 1.00000 as possible. It can go up or down depending on many things, but it's based on how long the scheduler THINKS the work units should take for your computer, and how long they actually take. If they take longer than the scheduler thinks they would, the number goes up some. If they go faster, it goes down.

When I first overclocked my computer a couple weeks ago, all the C4CW units I would get, the scheduler thought they'd take about 1 hour or a bit more, so my DCF was anywhere from 0.6 to 0.8. Over about a week, it adjusted itself, due to the time it actually took and reported to the scheduler, and I'm now sitting right around 0.9 to 1.1 most of the time. :)

Also, when you opt in for MANY projects like you seem to have done, due to the huge variance of time for work units for each separate project, this has a major effect on your DCF. If you do a few units for, say, HCC or C4CW (units with short run times), then when you request more work and the scheduler sends you work from, say, CEP2 or SN2S (much much longer run times), this can really throw the DCF off when it then would request work for a shorter run time project again.

Hope this helps some.

Re: Tasks are committed to other platforms

Thanks for all the information. I think waiting this out is the best thing. Yes, I'm already opted in for the beta (I have a bronze beta badge as proof!)

I noticed a similar problem on a different computer today. Event log is below. Properties are similar to the first set I posted, albeit the GPU is NVidia instead of ATI.

Re: Tasks are committed to other platforms

Update: That machine is still trading CPU tasks, but when it requests GPU tasks, it gets nothing. That's expected though :)

Where are the HCC GPU WUs being sent? Are they coming through the WCG beta or the HCC project?

Beta - you do not need to run HCC1 CPU WUs.

Re: Tasks are committed to other platforms

That's great; sounds like everything is working fine. The BETA process is on it's own seperate server(s). This time they were held (validator off) while WCG analyzed them. I presume (but cannot confirm) they were then sent to project scientists for their analysis. What they do with BETA's I do not know. Credit goes to your BETA totals.
