As of today, I noticed I'm getting this message on one of my computers. I just installed a GPU on thsi computer. I have all projects selected, and "send me work from other projects if the ones I selected don't have work" selected.
----------------------------------------I noticed other computers seem to be fetching WUs without any problem. What could it be? I'm hoping to get HCC GPU tasks now that I have a GPU again. ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by ashes999 at Mar 21, 2012 5:35:41 PM] |

OS?
GPU Brand change (from ATI <> NVidia? Drivers uninstalled / new card drivers installed, booting inbetween? The meaning of the message is simple... Your system identifies itself as something WCG has nothing for, either CPU or GPU. To get most answers in 1 stroke, post a copy of your Event/Message log from startup to where the Oher Platform message repeats. Then we'll read the nitty gritty details what's maybe on. --//-- |

Okay, I will consider myself prepared.
----------------------------------------OS is Windows XP (32-bit). Old GPU was an NVidia GT 240, new one is an ATI Radeon 6770 HD. The NVidia one died about a month ago, uninstalled everything, and installed ATI stuff today. Rebooted about four times today while installing/updating ATI drivers. Here's the event log; I restarted BOINC and ran an update request on WCG after a minute. I hope you find something, because I didn't :) Thanks, --Ashiq 3/21/2012 2:14:21 PM | | Starting BOINC client version 6.12.33 for windows_intelx86 3/21/2012 2:14:21 PM | | log flags: file_xfer, sched_ops, task 3/21/2012 2:14:21 PM | | Libraries: libcurl/7.19.7 OpenSSL/0.9.8l zlib/1.2.5 3/21/2012 2:14:21 PM | | Running as a daemon 3/21/2012 2:14:21 PM | | Data directory: E:\Program Files\BOINC\Data 3/21/2012 2:14:21 PM | | Running under account boinc_master 3/21/2012 2:14:21 PM | | Processor: 4 GenuineIntel Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40GHz [Family 6 Model 15 Stepping 11] 3/21/2012 2:14:21 PM | | Processor: 4.00 MB cache 3/21/2012 2:14:21 PM | | Processor features: fpu vme de pse tsc msr pae mce cx8 apic sep mtrr pge mca cmov pat pse36 clflush dts acpi mmx fxsr sse sse2 ss htt tm pni ssse3 cx16 nx lm vmx tm2 pbe 3/21/2012 2:14:21 PM | | OS: Microsoft Windows XP: Professional x86 Edition, Service Pack 3, (05.01.2600.00) 3/21/2012 2:14:21 PM | | Memory: 3.25 GB physical, 5.09 GB virtual 3/21/2012 2:14:21 PM | | Disk: 390.63 GB total, 105.23 GB free 3/21/2012 2:14:21 PM | | Local time is UTC -4 hours 3/21/2012 2:14:21 PM | | ATI GPU 0: ATI Radeon HD 5700 series (Juniper) (CAL version 1.4.1353, 1024MB, 1360 GFLOPS peak) 3/21/2012 2:14:21 PM | | A new version of BOINC is available. Download it. 3/21/2012 2:14:21 PM | World Community Grid | URL http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/; Computer ID 1451328; resource share 100 3/21/2012 2:14:21 PM | World Community Grid | General prefs: from World Community Grid (last modified 21-Mar-2012 13:30:36) 3/21/2012 2:14:21 PM | World Community Grid | Host location: none 3/21/2012 2:14:21 PM | World Community Grid | General prefs: using your defaults 3/21/2012 2:14:21 PM | | Reading preferences override file 3/21/2012 2:14:21 PM | | Preferences: 3/21/2012 2:14:21 PM | | max memory usage when active: 1663.05MB 3/21/2012 2:14:21 PM | | max memory usage when idle: 2993.49MB 3/21/2012 2:14:21 PM | | max disk usage: 55.88GB 3/21/2012 2:14:21 PM | | (to change preferences, visit the web site of an attached project, or select Preferences in the Manager) 3/21/2012 2:14:21 PM | | Not using a proxy 3/21/2012 2:14:26 PM | World Community Grid | Restarting task DSFL_00000127_0000025_0640_0 using dsfl version 624 3/21/2012 2:14:26 PM | World Community Grid | Restarting task faah31645_ZINC12758012_x3NF6b_00_0 using faah version 640 3/21/2012 2:14:26 PM | World Community Grid | Restarting task qc551_00024_14 using hpf2 version 640 3/21/2012 2:14:26 PM | World Community Grid | Restarting task SN2S_AAF21679_0000008_0920_1 using sn2s version 613 3/21/2012 2:15:06 PM | World Community Grid | update requested by user 3/21/2012 2:15:11 PM | World Community Grid | Sending scheduler request: Requested by user. 3/21/2012 2:15:11 PM | World Community Grid | Requesting new tasks for ATI GPU 3/21/2012 2:15:13 PM | World Community Grid | Scheduler request completed: got 0 new tasks 3/21/2012 2:15:13 PM | World Community Grid | No tasks sent 3/21/2012 2:15:13 PM | World Community Grid | No tasks are available for Say No to Schistosoma 3/21/2012 2:15:13 PM | World Community Grid | No tasks are available for GO Fight Against Malaria 3/21/2012 2:15:13 PM | World Community Grid | No tasks are available for Drug Search for Leishmaniasis 3/21/2012 2:15:13 PM | World Community Grid | No tasks are available for Computing for Clean Water 3/21/2012 2:15:13 PM | World Community Grid | No tasks are available for The Clean Energy Project - Phase 2 3/21/2012 2:15:13 PM | World Community Grid | No tasks are available for Help Cure Muscular Dystrophy - Phase 2 3/21/2012 2:15:13 PM | World Community Grid | No tasks are available for Help Fight Childhood Cancer 3/21/2012 2:15:13 PM | World Community Grid | No tasks are available for Help Conquer Cancer 3/21/2012 2:15:13 PM | World Community Grid | No tasks are available for Human Proteome Folding - Phase 2 3/21/2012 2:15:13 PM | World Community Grid | No tasks are available for FightAIDS@Home 3/21/2012 2:15:13 PM | World Community Grid | No tasks are available for Discovering Dengue Drugs - Together - Phase 2 3/21/2012 2:15:13 PM | World Community Grid | No tasks are available for Discovering Dengue Drugs - Together - Phase 2 (Type A) 3/21/2012 2:15:13 PM | World Community Grid | Tasks are committed to other platforms ![]() |

There is 4 tasks running and that's positive. So, what is the cache set to (Connect about Every and Additional Buffer)? Read them out from the Local Preferences screen as those are the ones that apply (there's the override entry).
----------------------------------------Else, the system seems to have OKayed your GPU, so it's trying hard to get some for your ATI [at your user request, no BOINC autonomous work requesting], but there is none presently... maybe there is for NVidia, but there is neither because factually, but for the Beta testing queue there are none. Makes sense to me --//-- [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Mar 21, 2012 6:56:40 PM] |

P.S. The next client is going to actually identify for what resource work is asked for. With some extra log flags you already can make more useful things visible. Here's an example off my 6.12.33 Linux box, without me hitting update:
632 World Community Grid 3/21/2012 7:56:10 PM [sched_op] Starting scheduler request 633 World Community Grid 3/21/2012 7:56:10 PM Sending scheduler request: To fetch work. 634 World Community Grid 3/21/2012 7:56:10 PM Requesting new tasks for CPU 635 World Community Grid 3/21/2012 7:56:10 PM [sched_op] CPU work request: 373887.73 seconds; 0.00 CPUs See... it's telling it wants a bunch of seconds of work for the CPU. --//-- |

Doesn't make sense to me :( I guess I'll just have to test my GPU on another project again.
----------------------------------------Connect About Every is 0.00 and Additional Buffer was seven; I changed it to 1.00 after this madness started, fearing that the seven days of work prevent me from getting more work. I'll update my client now ... ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by ashes999 at Mar 21, 2012 7:02:46 PM] |

I wish everyone was that well prepared, ashes999!
----------------------------------------I, as you, can see nothing wrong except BOINC is not asking for CPU work. It asked for GPU work and there is not for the projects you have checked. That's good news as your GPU upgrade is working. I see it restarted 4 wu's on your quad. Have you checked your cache vs. what you have waiting to run? Perhaps BOINC just does not need new work yet? The Other Platforms means that there is GPU work (resends etc) still out there for platforms other than yours. ![]() You are quick Seke. Think you may not have seen me P.S. post.
There was madness? At the very latest the client is to ask for work when 1 core goes idle. Meantime, go to the Projects task, select WCG and hit the properties button. The screen will tell more about what the client status is and any work needs for CPU and GPU. --//-- |
