Thanks uplinger. That only leaves me with 1 question. Will there be any more SN2S betas coming? biggrin

Re: SN2S Beta test March 20th, 2012 Issue Thread

hehe...at the moment there may be a few re-sends. We are looking at some of the initial results but if things look well, it could mean more vina application beta tests because the bug exists in all 3 vina projects.

Thanks,
-Uplinger

Re: SN2S Beta test March 20th, 2012 Issue Thread

Then why not address the *Stuck* VINA issue too [or has it been?]... whenever users have the standard / power user preset profile which it set to use 60% of the CPU time. It's FAIK only reported for the Windows platform.

Thanks (daring not say ''in advance'' ;-)

Re: SN2S Beta test March 20th, 2012 Issue Thread

Good idea Seke. I'm sure it still exists as I abort ~ 3-4/month VINA's that stop using CPU. (Mostly Schisto)

Re: SN2S Beta test March 20th, 2012 Issue Thread

1. General usage of the computer is asked, meaning if you want to test the shutdown issue you can, but law of averages will tell us as well as error codes recorded if the shutdown bug still exists. If you shutdown your computer without telling boinc to stop vina applications then it starts back up with a computational error ( not the expected restart from checkpoint )

In general I don't shut down my computer and much less without stopping the BOINC client first.
For Keith's sake: ordinary reboot (not pulling the plug) without stopping BOINC client: The beta task restarted from the last checkpoint and is running again for over an hour now setting some new checkpoints (now at 77.5%). Vista64.

Re: SN2S Beta test March 20th, 2012 Issue Thread

My guess is that a power cable pull is here less damaging than a regular system shutdown, but BOINC not closing the VINA task in time... it's strongly reminding of the early Vista days where we were hacking the registry to delay the close a bit longer. That though was meant to have been fixed with the client 6 version. The VINA tasks are a tad different... a 2 part application. We get these complaints of CEP2 regressing to zero progress too at times.. not job 2 or job 1, but back to 0:00 seconds. Maybe compare error logs if there is commonality with Q-Chem and VINA (now that is surely not an original idea.. why else are we testing a fix :).

Two downloaded and completed overnight, on same Q9550 in Vista_x64, running stock speed.
Completion time: 9.65 and 10.52 hours.
