I have just received a WU with a strange deadline. Has anyone else encountered anything similar?

I'd suggest letting it crunch away - as, there's been quite a few recently with 'strange' estimated times. I suspect that it'll run in it's normal time span for your machine.

Sounds similar to my 34-day GFAM deadline; worth checking that thread for comments.

@ gb009761 , the estimated runtime is 05:50:38 but because it has such a long deadline, it will be bypassed by other WUs because of its low priority, no?
----------------------------------------@ tonyh205 , thanks for the link. I will take a look when I get back home. ![]() Crunching in memory of my Mum PEGGY, cousin ROPPA and Aunt AUDREY. |

coolstream, if you've got a reasonably low cache (which, if I remember correctly you mentioned on another thread that, in general, you do), then it'll simply process FIFO - and thus, won't be bypassed.

Posted both cases to the backroom blackboard. It's been read several times, so I broadly *assume* the techs are informed.

gb009761, you are correct about me running a small cache (I upped this to 0.5 day a few days ago due to the WU outage). More often than not, I am close to BoincTasks so I tend to micromanage short deadline WUs to start crunching as soon as they arrive.
----------------------------------------I have seen the odd occasion in the past when a resend has been deemed 'too late' and server aborted but I have never investigated further to see if the FIFO principle had worked or not. SekeRob, thanks for posting a note to the backroom blackboard. In the meantime, do you think it best that I just leave that WU alone and see what happens to it? EDIT: After having now read the GFAM post, I will follow Sekerob's advice and just leave the WU to be processed in its own time ;) ![]() Crunching in memory of my Mum PEGGY, cousin ROPPA and Aunt AUDREY. 1. No doubt in my mind that if there is no High Priority processing state aka EDF, FIFO is adhered to at per-attached-grid level.
2. No doubt either that this will process normally, but if you have, feel free to MM the matter... on some unstable client version it might even end up to never start until it's due. Double daring you ;>) --//-- |

Or did you get this on the original assignment? |
