Please help. We shut down our computer having closed all the windows first, and now we have the message 'BIONIC IS NOT RUNNING.
Can anyone suggest what we need to do to get it started again. Thanks for any help. |

I take it you get this message after starting the computer again?
----------------------------------------What OS are you using? What version of Boinc Manager are you using? ![]() |

...don't worry if Bionic is not running......only worry if Boinc is not running!

Yes, the message comes up with the screen saver. Sorry we do not know which version of Bionic Manager we are using, how do I find this out and what do you mean by OS. I'm afraid you are talking to 'cave man' here rather than computer man!.
Thanks for contacting us.We really do appreciate the help. |

From the All Programs choice in the startup, run BOINC (not BIONIC) manager.
----------------------------------------The version does not make a whole lot of difference. I have run some very old ones before updating. Version: There should be a help choice at top right when looking at any of the BOINC displays when the program is running. In the help is an "about" which would tell the version. Other software works similarly. This one is version 6.12.34 (x86) If somebody can figure out how to hook it up to the startup directory, it will start automatically when the computer is booted. OS = Operating System, prompts and choices can make a difference. How many cave men does it take to change a light bulb? NONE. We'll just sit here in the dark. The danger of being a cave man, I am afraid, will eventually be the lack of knowledge of defragmenting, deleting temporary files, updating the operating system, keeping the registry clean and updating the virus scanner. The computer will become slower and slower until it becomes difficult to use or gets infected.

Yes I agree, about the need to be able to keep the computer 'clean' the basics of which you mention I do understand how to do.
Anyway for now I have uninstalled the BOINC programme off our computer, and at some point in the future we may revisit the world community grid. Thanks for your help and keep up the great work. Dave. |
