It seems that nearly half of the WUs I upload are in error :
----------------------------------------"ERROR: Unable to resume VINA thread." Where is the problem, please ? [Edit 2 times, last edit by Former Member at Feb 26, 2012 5:29:40 PM] |

Hello Legrandpiou,
VINA projects have been giving trouble when they get paused too many times. When the BOINC profile is set to run the CPU at 60% (3 seconds on, 2 seconds off) some people have run into trouble. Check your profile for commands that will pause the project, such as Run Only If ? hmmm ? no keystrokes for 2 minutes. The Maximum Usage profile has a good set of defaults. Lawrence |

I have given up running sn2n on my laptop.
----------------------------------------I found I need to run the older projects if i don't want to have to reboot every 3hrs due to crashed / paused WUs. Patrick |

We're terribly sorry that the tips and workarounds as provided for VINA driven sciences in the GFAM and DSFL forums have not worked for you [VINA based apps do not like BOINC CPU time throttle]. These workarounds, for all and everyone who see the same issue were, to summarize [for Windows]:
----------------------------------------1. Set BOINC CPU time to 100% [must, as this is the main problem source] 2. Install either: - A TThrottle [for BOINC] and set temperature ceiling [If the reason for slowing down BOINC is temperature], OR - B ThreadMasterGUI and set VINA science apps to a core %, to reserve a portion of CPU time to user/system functions, and reduce CPU Temps as bonus. The relevant app to select from the processes tab with selected % [for a duo at 60% that would be 30 and a quad that would be 15]. The exact science worker apps names currently are: SN2S: wcg_sn2s_vina_6.13_windows_intelx86 GFAM: wcg_gfam_vina_6.11_windows_intelx86 DSFL: wcg_dsfl_vina_6.24_windows_intelx86 Reportedly does TMG give the smoothest operation and stopping fan speed oscillation in addition [if it were the case], only needing maintenance when a new science version comes out. Advantage of TMG is that the control is at individual science app level, but under the options tab can be set to a general ceiling percent. (100 / cores * desired %) Both these tools are confirmed to work for most everyone on XP-SP3, Vista, W7, W2K3 Server and up. If these do not work for you, then sadly, we'll have to advise to deselect until the programmers find a solution around the freeze problem for those that can't run BOINC at 100% idle cycle CPU time use. --//-- edit: spell edit: emphasize temperature in point 2A/B. I'm trying installation of threadmaster GUI and keep you informed.
Anyway, I never had emperature problem before, nor with GFAM, nor with DSFL Wait and see. Thanks for help. |

After installing threadmaster GUI, it seems to work normally. I haven't had an error yet.
It seems to slow down severely the computation of the units. Again, wait end see. Thanks for helping. |

Lots of computation errors on sn2s. Any thoughts? Running on a laptop. Might have to stop this project.

Same thoughts as in the previous replies of this thread. *Assuming* they are the same errors [without any info on your part], the solution/workaround is posted above [and seems to work].
