Starting 2 days ago, my BOINC clients no longer run. I get a constant "Connecting to localhost" message. There are no other messages.
I have tried using the boinccmd method to attach the URL to my key. It failed with the same message. I tried allowing BOINC client and manager through my firewall. I also turned off the firewall and restarted BOINC. It didn't change anything. The only thing that has changed on my system (that I am aware of) are normal Windows system updates (Running Win 7 65-bit). Any suggestions are welcome. |

What's wrong has been discussed so many times, it would be impossible to equate. It begins with checking if the core client [boinc.exe] is running in the first place and reading the FAQ index. One links to http://boincfaq.mundayweb.com/index.php?language=1&view=461 which is a follow on to what happens for some that have the "connecting to host" for longer at bottom right of the BOINC manager [boincmgr.exe on Windows] ;>)

Thank you for your replies.
Lawrence - I had not cycled power on my router. I did that, and it made no difference. I have also cycled the computer. SekeRob - The core client is running. I had read the FAQ index and the relevant entries (as best I can determine them) several time before posting here. I had read the link you posted. I have done everything I can find in them to do - except I do not know how to determine if "Another program has taken up port 31416." I will try to figure that one out. So no progress, I still can't get the application to run as it used to. Any other suggestions anyone? |

Did you install with "allow all users"? If not, that could prevent connecting too, if the specific user was not added to the BOINC user group.
----------------------------------------Other programs taking up 31416 is remotely possible, but my experience is that it is not problem to have multiple programs monitor a client over the same port (BOINC Manager + BOINCTasks +TThrottle to name a common combination, amongst advanced crunchers). --//-- edit: insert "If not, " [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Feb 20, 2012 5:17:28 PM] |

I think I allowed all users but it has been nearly a year since I installed the software. Is there a way to check this? Or to modify it if necessary. I am the only user of the system, and it has been running just fine for almost a year until last week.
I tried "Run as Administrator" and it did not help. |

Uninstalling and reinstalling takes about 3 minutes, most always all work in progress preserved. What you're waiting for?
Here the screenshots for a step-by-step, PAE and Allow All users selected in the advanced, 2nd frame: http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q210/Seker...61045InstallerScreens.png Switch on the Firewall, so it pops up with exception queries [mine does on W7, made by Bill's crowd] --//-- |

Before going really bonkers, are you suggesting that a wrong system date/time stops the boincmgr.exe, gui part from connecting to a running boinc.exe, core client?
