Re: Cannot attach to Localhost

In the dim, and for me that can be just a few months, and distant past I recall seeing my rig sitting with the message "connecting" and just hanging there. I am less sure connecting what to what. I do remember however that this was resolved by setting the time and date correctly.

If I have this completely wrong then I apologise, but it is the work of a few seconds to check.

If this is a firewall thing then turn it off for a moment to check maybe?.

Check ports 31416, 80 and 443 are open to boinc.exe and boincmgr.exe is what I just found when checking into this.

Re: Cannot attach to Localhost

OK, since you've got a Glorreiches network, add the lines below with rpc in the names to the cc_config.xml and restart client, then try to connect from one of your other computers to the problem client using the BOINC Manager > Advanced menu > Select computer and type it's LAN IP & (password stored in the gui_rpc_auth.cfg file of the problem client)
<cc_config>
<log_flags>
<gui_rpc_debug>1</gui_rpc_debug>
</log_flags>
<options>
<allow_remote_gui_rpc>1</allow_remote_gui_rpc>
</options>
</cc_config>

The log flag will print extra debug lines in the message log.

Also, have you tried setting up BOINCTasks as BOINC Manager replacement? It allows to see all your BOINC clients in one view.

My experience is that if at all no connection possible, it's the security software, most probably the firewall.

Re: Cannot attach to Localhost

Hello MarshallW and welcome to the WCG forum.

The link endorsed in the SekeRob [Feb 19, 2012 11:57:15 AM] post, http://boincfaq.mundayweb.com/index.php?language=1&view=461 -- contain four(4) items as possible solutions to the issue you are having. I assume that you already tried the first three(3) items there but that all these three(3) items didn't work. If you haven't tried the 4th-item, you may want to give it a go and see if that solves the issue you are having.

The 4th-item reads:
4. You had a GPU of some brand in your PC, have since removed it, but didn't uninstall and clean out its drivers. Best do so, to get BOINC to work with you."

----------
edit1: 2012.02.21Tu.1957.utc: Because the said 4th-item is rather involved (you may lose your video image if you are not careful !), please try SekeRob's [Feb 21, 2012 7:38:37 PM] post suggestion first.

edit2: 2012.02.23Th.2040.utc: Apparently I confused who SekeRob was referring to in SekeRob's [Feb 21, 2012 7:38:37 PM] post -- which referred to Gerhard_594982 [Feb 21, 2012 7:19:02 PM] post and not to MarshallW. Thus, the said "4th-item" is now cleared for MarshallW to try as a possible solution to MarshallW's issue.

Re: Cannot attach to Localhost

Gerhard,

In the first part of the manual I linked to it says that you have to create the file if it does not exist:
Configuration file

The configuration is read from a file cc_config.xml. If this file is absent, the default configuration is used. To create or edit the file, use a text editor such as Notepad, and save it as cc_config.xml in your BOINC data directory. BOINC does not use standard XML. Putting comments in the file will cause errors.

The location where it has to be placed is printed at the start of the message log, usually for windows 7 C:\ProgramData\BOINC. You'll have to type the path in the File Explorer if the folder is hidden.

That you cannot see the message in the *local* BOINC Manager is clear as it cannot connect, but if you connect remotely from one of your other computers that has a working BOINC Manager, it would be possible. Are you sure that boinc.exe is running? Look in task manager as administrator.

Re: Cannot attach to Localhost

I have created the file cc_config.xml and saved in the Boincfolder. The Bonicmanager is running. I can see it in the Taskmanager. Boinc have 10 sec of CPU but Boincmanager have 0 sec. I have connected the Boincmanager from my Computer Bobcatz with the Computer Turbomachine. All what i have see was the Message that the Boincmanager can't connected with the client.
In the File cc_config.xml is no messages. I have the file too in the Boinc of the Computer Bobcat created. No messages!

Re: Cannot attach to Localhost

For the changes to take effect you'll have to restart the Turbomachine. Then you should be able to connect remotely, and if it does it will ask for the password that is stored in the gui_rpc_auth.xfg file in the BOINC data dir of the Turbomachine.

I cannot understand, and don't have a clue why it's not working. Uninstall, boot system, Install again, making sure "Allow all users" is selected.
