Hi Everybody,
I just finished creating a new TSRI website for the Global Online Fight Against Malaria project; see: http://gofightagainstmalaria.scripps.edu/ This site contains a page, similar to the "Status" page of the http://fightaidsathome.scripps.edu site, which presents a detailed description of all the GO FAM experiments, the particular batch numbers they involve, and their % completion status. It also describes the experiments that I plan to create and submit in the future. And it includes some "eye candy" that I created from different "positive control" experiments (that is, preliminary experiments which prove that we can use Vina to accurately predict/reproduce the known binding modes of some current inhibitors against the targets we are using on GO FAM). Thank you all very much for your interest and your support! Best wishes, Alex L. Perryman, Ph.D. |

Thanks Dr. Perryman.
That is a very good website. I especially appreciate the way that you emphasize that interesting compounds will be publicized as they are discovered. This will reduce the queries that I have to answer in which someone suspiciously asks if we are shilling for some corporation. Best wishes, Lawrence |

Hello mgl_ALPerryman.
With the website, the 'fog-of-crunching' for the GFAM project is now considerably reduced. Immediately, after reading the information presented on the webpages, I get a sense of sure-footedness in crunching GFAM WUs. "I know exactly what had gone before, I know exactly where things stand, and I know exactly what to expect" -- will reverberate in those webpages. I will not be surprised at all if the website inspires other grid projects to follow suit. Good job! ![]() ; |

Thankyou Dr. Perryman for this (yet another) excellent website.
----------------------------------------I've bookmarked it and will return to it on a pretty regular basis - after all, it's always nice to know what you're crunching and as to how, in general, the project is doing. Well done ![]() ![]() |

Great update, thank you so much! I really appreciate your attitude of transparency and encouraging other research groups to target other areas so all are working together instead of re-inventing the wheel. Thanks too, for the projects and % complete. It looks like we have a lot of work to do!

Dear Lawrence,
You're welcome. I'm glad that you appreciate the new site. It's the first one that I've built from scratch. I hope the GO FAM site does reduce those time-wasting queries you mentioned. Since the entire global market for anti-malaria drugs is estimated to be a few hundred million dollars/year, and since it generally costs half a billion to four billion dollars to develop and test a new drug, the corporations generally aren't interested in malaria research. There's no real profit incentive for malaria research, which is why most pharmaceutical companies neglect it entirely. Since the pharma. industry neglects this disease, academic researchers and the public need to try to pick up the slack. There are a couple pharma. companies that do assist malaria research, as part of public-private partnerships like MMV (the Medicines for Malaria Venture), but it is more of a charitable effort than a profit-driven collaboration. Thank you for your interest and your support, Dr. Alex L. Perryman |
