Switching my ubuntu cruncher back to a mechanical hard drive. While trying to download boinc through package manager, get a not authenticated message about both client and manager. Never seen this before. Went ahead and downloaded it anyway. Tried downloading the 32 bit libraries following instructions using apt-get, not there or missing.
----------------------------------------Something going on with boinc in the past few hours? Same with the 32 bit libraries? Have never had this problem before. I gave up and will try again in the morning.

Hi Bearcat.

( what i'm running ) Launchpad has 6.12.33-1. now for 10.04 i don't know what that ones like. I'll get you the links if you want? they've got Boinc stuff for other distros to. ps/ Have you looked for the libs in the package manager, should be there to. cheers. Am running a 64 bit system so AFAIK, we still need the 32 bit libraries. Have never had an issue with the package manager before. Especially seeing not authenticated warning. Wondering if I should uninstall boinc and start over.

Sounds like trouble with the repositories more than boinc. If you open a terminal and enter
----------------------------------------
sudo apt-get update
what message do you get? ![]() Currently being moderated under false pretences |

Wondering if I should uninstall boinc and start over. Hi. Yes we still need to install 32 bit libs, there's not many 64bit sciences unfortunately. I have seen a few people having problems with the package managers in Ubuntu 11.** versions reported on the Ubuntu forums, don't know if they update it and broke something. I'll stick with 10.04lts until 12.04 comes out & has been out for a while, less trouble. |

Got boinc installed this morning. No authentication messages this time. Was unable to get the 32 bit libraries. Followed the wiki directions. Stated broken packages so would not install. Guess will see if errors start popping up.

If you'd post a copy of those authentication messages, it would probably be a whole lot easier to understand and research.

They didn't pop up this morning when I installed so can't retrieve it again. Not sure what's going on with the 32 bit libraries though. Will try and get a screen shot when I try again later. Are these still needed to crunch under 64 bit OS? Am crunching without them now.

Without the exact messages, if BOINC generated stored in the surely familiar to you stdoutdae.txt file, it's a guess.
Without those libs there's no 32 bit BOINC crunching under Linux, simple. FAIK these are automatically installed under Ubuntu 11.10, but don't know the pre-requisites. Certainly when I clean installed 11.10 and 6.12.33 from Synaptic, there was never the question. --//-- |

I did a total uninstall, then reinstall under ubuntu 10.10. Am crunching DSFL now without the 32 bit libs. Finishing good so far. Hoping they validate when I turn them in tomorrow. Will try getting it again tomorrow when I hook it up to upload. If I get the same message about broken packages, will grab a screen shot and post it.
