I have 11 units on one of my four computers to upload, but scheduler requests keep failing. I had neglected to upload them previous to putting in a new video card, and when I rebooted, the file system had a number of errors. The errors were repaired, and the OS booted up, but the boinc client has not connected to WCG servers to upload the finished tasks even after repeated update commands. I sent an email to WCG, but no word as of this post.

Hello hillhopper,
It sounds as though something in your BOINC installation was trashed. I suggest that you try to repair BOINC before trying a reinstallation. Suspend WCG before you go to work on BOINC. If that does not work, then please post the start of the BOINC messages tab to tell us what sort of system you have. Lawrence |

Alas, I was very impatient thinking a fix would save the results, so assuming the units would be re-issued, I reinstalled the entire OS (Debian Linux Xfce) and another copy of the boinc manager. The client is running well with a new graphics card since the last run. If, in the future, units need to be salvaged from a damaged client, I will contact WGG here via forum before making more hasty decisions.
I do hope the tasks that were lost will be re-issued in the future. I don't know all there is to know about how this all works. |

Hi hillhopper,
Great to hear that your system is running well again. Please don't worry about the work units that have to be resent. That is just a tiny increase in the work that is always going on. Somewhere in the world there is always somebody having trouble with their computer. I was down for 2 days just over a week ago. The important thing is to fix your computer.Hope the rest of February goes well for you. Lawrence |
