Is there any lines of code I can add to the config files to make GFAM and DSfL WUs work on my laptop?
----------------------------------------Have been having to reboot every 5 - 10% as they stick. Given up running them on my laptop. Takes over 24hrs to run a 8hr WU, due to sticking and having to reboot. 6.10.58 as a service Win7 Intel duo core laptop Off to crunch CEP2. Patrick ![]() |

Follow theStuck WU threadS . The BOINC throttle is the key culprit it seems. Set to CPU time 100% (or Run Always in activity menu). And it's likely going away.

Patrick If SekeRob's solution doesn't work for you, never seen it not work, but just in case next time do NOT reboot the pc, just pause the workunit and then restart it and see if that gets it running again. Sometimes people have to exit Boinc, then just restart Boinc and the crunching should start right back up again. ![]() ![]() |

... to add, temporary switch off LAIM (Leave application in memory, when suspended), in case it is on! Pause the stuck task for 30 seconds is enough to properly unload it, without other tasks being affected.

Personally, I gave up on using ttrottle on all my units, not only would the WU's hang but also the LAN cards - couldn't remote to any of the servers (3) all running w2k8r2 with 8gb and a I7-2600k chip...

Had such a problem some months ago. I got advice to click on "projects", then on "update". It worked.

Yep, I use the recommended tthrottle on my devices that will work with it. I set BOINC to run at 100% and set tthrottle to 50% max CPU (don't like the high heat or fan noise), haven't had a problem with stuck WU's.
I've got one older IBM R40 laptop when I was crunching vina apps with BOINC set to 50% CPU, it would randomly get stuck WU's. Tthrottle recognized the temp sensor but couldn't control it. So now that laptop only crunches non-vina WU's, no more stuck WU's. It's been suggested to run the CPU at 100% to avoid the stuck but then fan noise is irritating. |

Thanks. Changing the throttle makes the laptop hang altogether.

Discussed above, when needing the BOINC throttle to keep [laptop] temps down, installing TThrottle for BOINC and setting the ceiling temperature will take care of that problem in addition. Lockup temps could indicate a need for dust-bunny removal.
----------------------------------------As there is as yet not a solution against the VINA based science lock-ups that are run with the BOINC internal throttle active, then if TThrottle is not an option, we sadly have to advice to deselect GFAM/DSFL/Project 20 sciences from the device profile. TThrottle causing hangs on WU's and LAN card impairment [per kffitzgerald post], is an entirely novel experience with this utility. Personally, I gave up on using ttrottle on all my units, not only would the WU's hang but also the LAN cards - couldn't remote to any of the servers (3) all running w2k8r2 with 8gb and a I7-2600k chip... Can only ask him to connect with the developer at his forum http://www.efmer.eu/forum_tt/index.php?PHPSES...1cu3pia7n4&board=10.0 if interested to help debug that matter.Goo Luck --//-- edit: insert quote wit emphasis mine [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Feb 12, 2012 4:57:19 PM] |
