Re: How Will ACTA not kill the internet?

Maybe there is hope yet.... The chances of the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement becoming law in Europe dwindled suddenly on Friday, after Polish prime minister Donald Tusk said he was suspending ACTA's ratification in his country.

If the EU steers clear of ACTA, it is still possible for the agreement to enter into force elsewhere. However, for this to happen, at least six of the negotiating parties will have to ratify the deal.

Non-EU signatories include Australia, Canada, Japan, South Korea, Morocco, New Zealand, Singapore and the US. Non-EU countries that have so far refrained from signing include Mexico and Switzerland.

Re: How Will ACTA not kill the internet?

The European Parliament is not normally a body which is noted for being responsive to the views of people across the European Union (too busy riding the gravy train). However the BBC reports the President of the EU Parliament as saying
"I don't find it [ACTA] good in its current form." Martin Schulz - on German television network ARD

Re: How Will ACTA not kill the internet?

What especially warms the heart of this old timer is
Poland - the mother of all oppressed countries - now
protesting fiercely against any infringement on Freedom of Speech

Polish Protests against ACTA

- but then again:
It was their minister at the negotiations and signing that lied his socks off ... devilish
- and they know how to make a revolution - Viva Poland!!!
