Re: How Will ACTA not kill the internet?

UK petition 11,145. If it gets at least 100,000 signatures, it will be eligible for debate in the House of Commons.

Access petition 283,673

Remember, The European Parliament still has to approve ACTA for it to go into effect around the world. If they vote NO, then ACTA will be effectively dismantled

Scary. Thanks for posting. In the US, the president may (hopefully) lack the constitutional authority to implement this without ratifying it in Congress.

He can't and they (meaning the house) won't. Just like they never ratified the Kyoto nonsense.

Re: How Will ACTA not kill the internet?

Actually it's the Senate, not congress. They don't ratify treaties directly, they pass a resolution of ratification. Same result, different terminology. And people wonder why other countries laugh at the US and our lack of knowledge on basic constitutional ideas.

Re: How Will ACTA not kill the internet?

Quoting from the signature website:
"Europe is deciding right now whether to ratify ACTA -- and without them,
this global attack on Internet freedom will collapse.
We know they have opposed ACTA before,
but some members of Parliament are wavering --
let's give them the push they need to reject the treaty.
Sign the petition -- we'll do a spectacular delivery in Brussels
when we reach 500,000 signatures."

- the 500,000 signatures were raised to 750,000 and the goal is currently 1 mio.

It looks as if the European Parliament is a key, and their rapporteur, MEP Kader Arif,
got so disgusted with the games played and the lies lied at the negotiations
that he resigned and let his disgust be known.
May that be contaminous .....
BTW: MEPs are elected by the voters in their respective countries out of the 27 forming the EU.
They are 754 in total, and in this European Parliament play pen you can click arrows and have fun ...
You may even select one MEP of choice from you country, with whom to share your opinion
and let him know how you would prefer him to vote come June ...

The vote is 852,188 now.
Did you ask yours to vote? Post it on your social media of choice?
To your Facebook Friends' Walls?

From the rolling band:
Czech Republic, Italy, Mexico, New Zealand, Finland, Australia, Austria, Aruba, Belgium, France, Sudan, Canada, Spain, Malaysia, Spain, Austria again, Germany and Israel side by side, Romania, Sweden, United States of America two times+a couple, Bulgaria, Poland, Indonesia, Canada one more time, little Liechtenstein, Algeria, Switzerland, and they are still up in Brasil, Egypt now knows freedom and the value of the Internet, Slovakia were freed from dictatorship recently, Latvia, Estonia and Lithuania - the three Baltic babies forced into the arms of the USSR but now truly independent, Mexico, Gibraltar, Mauritius, South Africa, Greece, the cradle of democracy, Vietman, India, Buttercupland, Bulgaria and Poland, Macau, Netherlands, Argentina, France, Italy, Slovakia, Germany, Germany, Romania, Singapore, Norway, United States of America, Hungary, Spain, Spain, Spain, Palestine, Germany, Honduras, Latvia, Montenegro, Lithuania, Croatia ....

Re: How Will ACTA not kill the internet?

Avaaz.org is enthusiatic, and why not?
"Amazing! Over a million signers and the lead Parliamentarian on ACTA has resigned.
Now's the time to pile on the pressure and bury the treaty -- "

Now at 0905 UTC 1,195,041 have signed here!
Bulgaria, Germany, France, Netherlands, Sweden, Australia, and all of a sudden we saw Japan, Greece, Maylaysia checking in, Czech Republic, Slovenia, Austria, Romania Latvia, United Kingdom, Denmark, Slovakia all of a sudden makes me think of how many new countries Europe had recently mainly through peaceful decisions, Finland, Poland and how many are free of oppression since the Iron Curtain fell, Croatia, United States of America checking in from the early morning shift, Switzerland with a couple who love each other so much they cannot split into two signatures, one more from the US morning shift, and one more, this will be a good day, Thailand, Buttercupland again, Brasil, South Africa, Malta, Portugal, Belgium, Venzuela, little Malta again, and United States of America, NORWAY, yeahh!!
........ and Panama
