I am relatively new to WCG. It's very rewarding knowing that I can put my computers to work tackling the world's most pressing problems. There is something very satisfying about collecting little "badges" too!
Anyway, I am wondering if we can get up to one million results returned each day by the end of 2012. It seems as if we are regularly returning more that 800,000 results/day. I understand that part of it depends on the size of the work units. Still, I think it would be a noble goal. Keep on crunching! |

Welcome to the 'machine' and the forum's lomieheard,
----------------------------------------As to 1,000,000 results/day, I'm sure it'll be possible - especially with the news that GPU crunching is imminant... PS., you're quite right in saying the length of WU's can have a significant effect on the number of results that are crunched/day, as there are a few projects at the moment, when the length of WU has been lengthened so as to compensate for the incredibley short C4CW/HCC units. As the WCG techs have said many-a-time, "bring it on, and we'll build the system to process it"... ![]() |

Anyway, I am wondering if we can get up to one million results returned each day by the end of 2012. On one single day it has already been done in 2011 on Thursday May 5 with 1,013,097 results. On an every day basis that all depends on how good the techs will find this idea for the database's health. ![]() |

There have been 3 more days in the month of February 2012 that brooke the "one million +" results per day benchmark:
February 20 = 1,033,469 results February 21 = 1,013,439 results February 23 = 1,005,988 results |

The 2011 day that passed 1 million was a product of a prior day larger validation interruption. Similar, yesterday there had a major validation process interruption, so today is likely to set a new*administrative* high, but it wont be a normal production day record that will get a highlighting red rim on the dashboard http://bit.ly/WCGDSH. The Feb 2012 will be for a little while standing as top day, but probable not for long :D
----------------------------------------By noon, when the validators have caught up, there will be another overall record broken... that for most validated results in a calendar month, and it's a short month with a leap year extra day to add. Over 25 million in a month, probable setting the bar by tomorrow night at over 26M... not far from 1 million every day of the month. Already CEP2 and C4CW accumulated more results MTD Feb, than in any previous month. There's a distinct ethereal glow in the server room, but it requires regular oiling by the techs. Whilst, some sciences are running with the breaks on such as HFCC & DSFL which have larger tasks. When they are returning to normal production that will again take away many small results from HCC and C4CW. --//-- edit: link fix [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Feb 28, 2012 3:19:52 PM] |
