Protest on Web Uses Shutdown to Take On Two Piracy Bills

With a Web-wide protest on Wednesday that includes a 24-hour shutdown of the English-language Wikipedia, the legislative battle over two Internet piracy bills has reached an extraordinary moment — a political coming of age for a relatively young and disorganized industry that has largely steered clear of lobbying and other political games in Washington. http://www.nytimes.com/2012/01/18/technology/...cy-bills.html?_r=1&hp

Re: Protest on Web Uses Shutdown to Take On Two Piracy Bills

I have viewed many of the black-out pages, and signed the petitions. Been watching this very closely and telling many people, since TV stations and radio have not covered this topic AT ALL!!!!!

This should be no surprise since many of the companies are also owned or partners with the main backers of this bill.

However, it is finely looking like others are beginning to take notice.

Censorship of the internet will not be tolerated.

Ummm. not sure what you mean- are you saying other networks aren't making mention of SOPA?

It's been in the news here for days, on-air and in print. Was all over the morning shows, local news, on-air and print here in Richmond VA. If I google sopa +abc or cbs or nbc or pbs or cnn or several newspaper names... (well, you get the idea) I see hits from all over.

If that's not what you mean I apologize, and carry on:)

Re: Protest on Web Uses Shutdown to Take On Two Piracy Bills

Funny...as I read this post...NBC is reporting on SOPA. I believe that COICA was the one almost passed last year. It was presented actually back in 2010 but didn't go before the Judiciary Committee until November or later in 2010. Both bills have had quite a few reports by many media outlets. If you are just now hearing it, you haven't been paying much attention to alternative media. Since the blackout announcements, radio and tv both have been reporting. I think the blackouts have been the most effective at getting people's attention.

Yes, I don't think any news outlet/MSM media/whatever want to call it had been banging on this until sites began joining a blackout...fwiw I did my .0002cents worth with senator/representative calls and emails.

Please note that the current administration in the person of Obama spoke out against SOPA even before the blackouts, as has been reported by the media.
