Network Status error in a loop .... ?

Howdy. I run the BOINC agent on about seven different boxes (Win and Mac). On one WindowsXP, SP3 machine, I see the following error over and over again in a loop most mornings:

Whats odd is that the machine is connected and the client is communicating with the servers as I see work units downloaded and results uploaded. After, like, 50 times of popping this message up it does finally stop, but it is distracting. Following the steps the error asks that I do (Advanced > Do network communications) has absolutely no effect on the issue.

Any ideas on what is going on? Thanks.

Re: Network Status error in a loop .... ?

Somewhere in the Display & Network Options screen of BOINC Manager there's / used to be a setting or slider that can be set to stop that reminder. Don't see it presently in the 6.12.33 version.

The Advanced menu > Do Network Communication is supposed to shake things loose, but it does not register anything anywhere visible to the user, not even an entry in the message log to confirm that user has done this at some point in time.

Edit: Compare the Local Preferences > Network Tab entries with another client you have. There's a "confirm before connecting to internet". Mine are not ticked. Presume the Activity menu > Network always available is selected.

Re: Network Status error in a loop .... ?

Thanks for the reply and info. My "confirm before connecting to internet" was not checked. However, I didn't have the "Network always available" set. I'll try that now and see if it clears it up.

Thanks.

No luck, it keeps popping that message up. Curious.

Re: Network Status error in a loop .... ?

What kind of connection do you have and is it stable, e.g. not a WIFI on power saving?

Is anything recorded in the message log indicating network is needed?

You can of course run without BOINCmgr and let the boinc.exe service continue [if installed with protected application execution selected]. No BOINCmgr icontray, no popup messages.

P.S. and just for the sake of pushing buttons, in the network tab set the network schedule from 00:00 to 00:00 and also select Disconnect when done and increase, set additional buffer to 1.00 days and Connect about every 0.25 days. Maybe the pattern changes.

And a google search brings up a very old cleint version discussion on the same prolem: http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=21858. Security software in put in connection. BOINC needs an exception on localhost IP 127.0.0.1 and port 31416 to be able to communicate between the BOINC Mgr and the boinc.exe core client. When you open up the the network options [not the netwrok preferences] does it list mor than one network connection as being available?
