There are two possibilities to define cache size:
----------------------------------------1) Through the WCG "Device profiles" like "work", "school" etc. 2) By setting the cache size in the given rig's local Boinc app "preferences" where you can set the "additional work buffer" size. It is not clear for me how these two interact. I have the following issue. The 21 machines I have running Boinc have a local "additional work buffer" size of 3 days. All these machines run at the moment under the same profile "work", but sometimes they get split into groups with different profiles . Instead of changing locally for each machine the cache size I change it the "work" definition to a different value, smaller or larger, let's say 1 day. We have now two very different values one for the profile and one that is local. Which one will supersed on the other one? I want to be able to set the cache size through the device profiles to avoid having to change on each single machine. How to do that? ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by Hypernova at Jan 17, 2012 7:48:26 AM] |

I want to be able to set the cache size through the device profiles to avoid having to change on each single machine. How to do that? See FAQ for Website device profile & local preferences information. "Once the local preferences are created they will stay in effect and override the website device profiles. At times when [website profile] changes do not seem to take effect it is best to *Clear* these [local] preferences ...". So Clear each local preference in every one of the group of machines, then just use the website device profile for that group of machines. |

tnyh205, thanks for reading the SHF's. That's the way to do it, or use what I proposed in other recent thread in a 4 point ingredients plan in reply to Hypernova query [The Dengue thread I think it was]... use one client that has LogMeIn [or other remote access software] and have that one with BOINCTasks for quick multi-client access. I'm using the 256 AES encryption running LogMeIn as what I did last holiday, logging in from thousands of miles away and check up if clients still ran proper [The result status page would tell too, by sorting on the Send date, which shows the last work issued to clients]. Was a first for me to let home machines crunch while away on a weeks long trip.
