Ok Well so far so good. I have a total of 30 devices joined now. Have several students running the software and no issues so far. I installed on a Friday and told the kids to make sure they left their computer plugged in and turned on........only one child actually did. So we will have to do an education session about the software and how it works. Our marketing/PR people are working on a partner statement so we can become a partner. Our server environment is almost completely virtualized, so we are running Vmware vsphere on 3 physical servers that host all of our virtual servers. With that being said only 2 of the servers are used at any one time, the 3rd server is a failover server. Since it is not utilized unless in a failover situation, I created some Ubuntu Virtual servers, and they are now running for the grid. Since the server IS my failover server and is necessary for keeping my production machines running, I had to create some tasks that would handle the failover event in vsphere. Vsphere will try to gracefully shut down the grid computing servers, but if they are unable to shut down within 30 seconds it will shut them completely off so it can start migrating production servers. I edited my UPS software to also shutdown the grid servers if running on battery backup. I also had to add a new temperature sensor to monitor the server room temperature. Back to the laptops, I intend to increase the total installations to 75 by tomorrow, and we will see how they run over the Christmas break, and we are preparing to to a push to get every kid here running BOINC/WCG to get at least one friend to install and run WCG. Nice. Good luck. ![]() - AMD Ryzen 5 1600AF 6C/12T 3.2 GHz - 85W - AMD Ryzen 5 2500U 4C/8T 2.0 GHz - 28W - AMD Ryzen 7 7730U 8C/16T 3.0 GHz |

Okay guys and Gals, question:
I have several Ubuntu servers running the majority of my WCG work that is running off of my SAN. Since starting the WCG I have had 3 SAS drive failures in my SAN, do you think there is any correlation between the drive failures and WCG writes? I personally don't think so, but I would appreciate your input. If this should be posted in a new thread please tell me or move it, I am not well versed in forums. Thanks to all of you |

It might be coincidence or not. Are you running a large number of Clean energy workunits ? The Clean Energy units are very read/write intensive on your disks. As far as I know none of the other projects would put any strain out of the ordinary on your disks.

Compared to other projects, yes, but compared to a reasonably busy server, I think it's peanuts. Personally I would incline for a coincidence. |

^^^ What he said. Are you monitoring hard drive temperatures? Crunching can generate a lot more heat in boxes. I've put an extra fan in my Ubuntu server at the front to keep drive temps low.
----------------------------------------HDDtemp will give you a snapshot of what's happening. You can also use a SMART util to check the error rates on the drives. If they increase, it's rarely good news. [Edit 1 times, last edit by Hardnews at Jan 14, 2012 2:18:32 PM] |

Ok I ran PS script against the storage area network and isolated the virtual machine that was doing the most IOPS and it turned out to be the Anti-virus server.
No correlation between the BOINC or WCG clients |
