Hello Forum,
Is it normal for 1 task for the HPF Project to take 11 hours on an average PC ? Duel Core 3 GIG RAM Nvidia 6800 I have tried changing the settings via website and via the Bionc Manager but its just having no effect. Anyone got any ideas or information that might help it would be appreciated. Many Thanks, Tony. |

Hi Anthony,
Welcome to the forums. The amount of time that is spent is dependent on each computer that is doing the task. Some are fast, others slow. As each task approaches its completion, the estimate becomes more accurate (with the exception of clean energy which is another story). Am I right saying that you are new to the World Community Grid? If so, it takes some time for the computer to recognize how fast it can do the task on your computer and after a few tasks, it will be giving realistic estimates for the tasks that your computer is doing. Also if a given task takes much longer than a normal task it will set all estimates wildly off and the estimates will eventually returns to normal range. This happens a lot on my computer. It is best not to worry about it and just keep crunching. JB |

Thanks for the quick reply Bieberj,
That has helped ill keep an eye on it, My only concern was that if it takes too long and a pass deadlines then it would be pointless me crunching if it has been completed elsewhere. thanks again, Tony. |

That 11 hours is an estimate. I have seen tasks with ten hours only take eight or less to be completed.
Other community grid deals such as milkyway@home I have seen projects with an estimated completing time of one hundred hours take less then an hour. |

Tony,
Generally tasks have a 7-10 days deadlines, so there should be no problem completing your tasks within the deadline. JB |
