Hello,
I am unable to detach from any projects using the GUI. I am also unable to uninstall and then reinstall to detach from projects, as it saves my account info on my computer, and still does not allow me to detach. I am trying to change the account associated with Boinc Manager to a different one, and read that i need to detach from world community grid, and them reattach using the new account. Any help will be greatly appreciated. |

Not sure why at this moment, but hope this Help item
https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/help/vi...ng=currently%2Bregistered gets you further along. No need to uninstall/reinstall, just editing a line in a config file and restarting the client allows the detach/attach [if that is the real problem] let us know --//-- |

Are you using an account manager like BOINCstats?
----------------------------------------Edit: If so, then tell the client to stop using the manager, then detach. I had this trouble when some projects went under a year or so and BOINCstats pulled the controls to detach off of their page. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by Coleslaw at Dec 5, 2011 5:07:37 PM] |

My hope and guess is that uninstall/install does *not* add a BAM account manager association back [I'd be slightly appalled if it did an AMS (Account Manager System) is the one that does the project (re)attaching, even WCG if it were there before]. Considering the join date and the initial auto add of WCG, not probable...

Just to verify, I uninstalled BOINC in a Windows XP virtual machine, rebooted, downloaded an older version 6.10.60 from Berkley, installed the older version, and the results were that BAM! indeed still had an association. So, it is possible that the account manager could be part of the problem even after an uninstall/reinstall. This has been my experience through several versions of BOINC. As long as your BOINC app data files are still in tact, it will keep the account manager association. At least with BAM! anyways.
----------------------------------------Edit: I have even used this process when copying the BOINC data directory for reinstalling Windows and not wanting to lose any active work. You don't always have the option to finish before the system goes down for a reload. BAM settings have always returned. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by Coleslaw at Dec 6, 2011 2:32:53 AM] |

Thank you all for the wonderful advice. I somehow managed to get it to work through uninstall using a third party uninstall application and deleting every file associated with BOINC and its data directories. This only worked after I had done this twice. I used Revo uninstaller in advanced mode twice, and the second time it worked. I was running windows 7 32bit.
