Forgive my naivity, but I just bought a Sony Desktop computer that had the World Community Grid installed. The software is running while the computer is idle. I noticed that I am doing work, but not getting credit for the work. I registered as a user at the website, but I don't know how to link my computer to my username on the website. Can anyone help?

Hi,
----------------------------------------if you see Boinc as a little graphic window, first click on "advanced view". Then open the "projects" tab. If your registered name is listed there under the WCG account, you'll be credited for your work. It takes some time for your returned work to get validated. You can monitor your work units status in the "result status" section on the website under "my grid". Just wonder why a new PC comes with pre-installed WCG software... (edit: ok, probably Ubuntu ![]() happy crunching. [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Dec 3, 2011 2:32:48 AM] |

Hi b.coppock,
Welcome to WCG. I'm not clear on the problem you are having. If you are getting work then your machine is indeed connected to the site. Perhaps you could first browse the FAQ for an answer. http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread_thread,21501 As a newbie you might like to bookmark that FAQ thread - it is often most helpful. If you don't find your answer there then somebody here will surely solve it for you. The statistics say b.coppock has not returned any completed work units yet so there are in fact none to see - yet. Although the client is running, are you sure it is actually crunching work? If the machine is 2nd hand perhaps any work done is being credited to the previous owner? Please copy and paste the first 30 lines or so from the messages log in the client so helpers can see your machine configuration etc. Cheers Toss |

hi b.coppock,
----------------------------------------The solution is rather simple, the credit by default going with a "yes, I want to contribute" resulting in the client being registered to Sony / Sony Vaio Team. Open the BOINC Manager (BM), I'd think you would be allowed the rights, 1) In BM, open the advanced view if the simple view (graphic) is up. (button right bottom) 2) Click on the Project Tab and you'll see the account name. 3) Select that line and click "No new tasks" 4) Select the Tasks tab and see what tasks are there. 5) Choices: Let is finish till nothing is left or select all and abort (button left). 6) Back to projects tab, select WCG and hit the "Remove", which will detach the client from WCG. 7) In "Tools" menu, do an "Add project" and pick WCG or enter the url http://www.worlcommunitygrid.org 8) OK, and say you're already a member / have an account 9) Enter your forum name and password. 10) Done. Not sure but I think the procedure is described in Help both for those on Sony and on default IBM account (those who work at IBM have their new desktops enrolled if not volunteered) and yes, there is the short version, without the steps 4/5 above: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/help/viewSe...ng=currently%2Bregistered No help by SekeRob needed, using the help button or FAQs ;>) Let us know and thank you for contributing to WCG. --//-- P.S. Heard that WCG/Sony are working on expanding the program which will require such things as getting BOINC ready to activate in the local language.
