Re: New Heights...

BTW...
As a thought on "payback"... [H] is now less than 6 months out for overtake on this project :)
That's from not on our radar less than 3 weeks ago. TY huge to RJ for making this possible! I'm jumping in to help out more, again thanks to RJ.
I think we can have them before Xmas if we can direct extra effort here. GPU project will end soon, so we should concentrate our GPU's here to take full advantage.
Just a thought... YMMV

Re: New Heights...

Hope it works out well. Looks like you got input from the HCC guys already on getting things going. I would suggest the sweet spot for the 7870 is around 6-8 units at a time. This is fun isn't it?

Re: New Heights...

Yup, messed with it a bit and think I'm going to run 6 instances with HCC1 and GFAM app_info. It should work out like 6 X 570's. So I moved my 570's back to GpuGrid where they are much more efficient. If I work this Saturday I'll be ordering another 7870 and go back to just HCC1 app_info with 6 instances each GPU.
Gotta look into the multi GPU and app_info a bit tho :)

Re: New Heights...

changed to 12 instances. Running well, cool and stable. Just HCC1 in my I7 hex now. Waitin for some Dual 7870 feedback before pulling the trigger on another for the same rig. That'll be 140-160K ish if it'll work :)

Re: New Heights...

Got several replies on 7950 and 7870 compatibility and was so happy that I placed an order for this:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125414.

I really don't understand why more AMD team members are not taking advantage of the boost this could do for our WCG team. It's a simple app_info.xml file with Vista or W7 (64bit seems to work best). Just saying that we should take full advantage of this opportunity while it's there. :)

Edit: My WCG numbers now are from just one 7870 and 8 cpu instances of GFAM. just saying ;)

Re: New Heights...

I hear ya. I'm running a 7870 and a 7970, nothing else. I'm "creeping" in on 30mil points and 150k results with just a bit over 1 year of run time.

Re: New Heights...

Looking at the numbers so far I'm impressed with the efforts and jealous too! Keep up the good work team. I'm out next week for a few days of surgery and then back on the 16th... then out again for a longer term surgery and recovery.

We will be voting for the crunching team slogan soon... be sure to cast your vote. This slogan is what all our award bling will carry as well as helping to get our teams name out front.

Re: New Heights...

No need to be jealous :)
Any Team member with a 58XX or later ATI/AMD GPU can easilly take advantage of the app_info.xml file addition and immensely increase our WCG output.
When RJ posted about this advantage, it was a no brainer for me. I found a 7870 on sale and secured it. Plugged it in and now it is the only GPU on WCG. ~100k/day Boinc. Granted some extra for 10 GFAMs, but face it, they are terrible :(. Using the HCC1 opportunity to do GFAM cause I want saphire :)
I have another AMD card coming circa Tuesday as it has already shipped. 7950 and should double my contribution.
Even NVidea cards benefit greatly towards Team advancement, however much less efficienty than ATI/AMD. I have my NV cards back at GpuGrid because the AMD GPU is doing so much better.
6 0r 7 High end GPU team mates making the change to WCG and HCC1 with the app_info and we could easily be close to 1 Million Boinc points or 7 Millionish at WCG points :)
Edit: My single amd 7870 is pumping out 3X what my 2 570's, one 460 and one 465 were doing.

It's unclear how much longer the GPU project will run so the faster we convert resources here, the more advancement our Team can make.
