Replacing the stock HS with a Zalman CNPS10X Quiet has resulted in the temperature maxing at 45 instead of 65, and mprime (Prime95) is now completely stable. I can but conclude this CPU is from a bad batch... 65C should not be high enough to cause instability at stock speeds.
