Hope this isn't the umpteenth copy of this question.
My laptop (Lenovo T420) used to take less than 2 hours for a "help conquer cancer" unit and some 6 to 8 hours for the Leishmaniasis units. Last week BOINC came to a full stop and I re-installed it (to the point of removing the libraries). Now it takes 6 hours for the conquer cancer and 24 hours for the Leishmaniasis units. javascript:smilie(' ')Any ideas on how I can improve the output again? |

Lenovo Thinkpads is most INfamous on these boards,
CPU cycles lowered (system energy saving functions) Battery In/Out seems to make a difference too, to me stupid [IMNHO] as one member found that with battery out (on a Thinkpad), the CPU cycles are lowered, whilst battery constantly in decreases the batteries live. To me when running and no battery in, means it is on mains and can run all-out. You don't say if you measure time in wallclock or CPU time, but setting the activity menu to Run Always ensures that the throttle function and pause when system busy are deactivated. --//-- |

Joost,
----------------------------------------If you re-installed BOINC only, i.e. not the whole laptop, I suspect your profile settings more than the machine's power management settings. Check Basic Options (processor time percentage) and Processor Usage settings in the Advanced Options section. And remember that if you have changed anything in BOINC's Local Preferences then all local settings override those of the website profile. |

As JimBoullier said check your settings under Preferences in the Boinc Manager, down by the clock. Specifically the processor usage and disk and memory usage tabs. Under the processor usage tab you might want to change the 25 to a zero in the line where it says 'when processor usage is less than...'. This stops Boinc if the processor usage is too high. Under the disk and memory usage tab pay attention to the 'memory usage' section at the bottom where it says 'use at most _ & when computer is in use'. I have found that upping mine to 85% keeps the units running with no slowdowns. Now MOST of my machines are Boinc ONLY machines, if you use yours all day long my choices may not work for you so experiment to see what works best for you. Be sure to click on the 'ok' button at the bottom so the choices will be saved. ![]() ![]() |
