Received one WU for every thread without the need for any intervention. Priority switched to run them all right now, so results should be returned later in the morning.
----------------------------------------INITIAL OBSERVATION: They have been running for approx 20 mins and already the estimated times are falling by about 30mins on average. UPDATE: Some of these have already completed and I am now receiving more (again without any intervention). For the benefit of those that want to grab as many of these betas as they can, it is certainly worth suspending any other tasks you are running and forcing any betas you receive to run immediately. If you are lucky like me, you might finish some and still be able to receive more. Remember that you can receive only one beta per available thread. It is impossible to stockpile them like other 'normal' projects. So get them completed as soon as you can. Crunching in memory of my Mum PEGGY, cousin ROPPA and Aunt AUDREY. The good news is that snoozing and throttling work as expected.
The bad news is that CPU temperatures rises a little with one of this Vina WUs, and a lot (around 10°C higher) with 2 of them in parallel, at least on a Hyper-threaded (and liquid cooled) P4. I hope the final version won't behave like that, or at least have an option like CEP2 to limit the number of concurrent WUs. So far I've grabbed 9 betas on 6 different machines. I think this is my biggest "beta loot" of all time :) perhaps I'll finally get my silver badge. |

So I'm not the only one seeing a bit of a temperature rise. I've seen just a couple of degrees C higher when running two beta vinas on a Core 2 Duo (no HT) and a dual core AMD E-350.
----------------------------------------Everything else looks good. I can suspend (and they actually do suspend) and resume. When running alongside a WU from a different science, the beta shares resources equally. They respect the percent CPU time specified for each machine. I've returned 4 or 5 completed betas with no problem, and am continuing to get replacements just as soon as each completes. :) |

Got 21 of them across 12 different hosts today. 1 has been returned as valid and three resulted in "error", on a host that had kind of crashed when I came home.
----------------------------------------Don't know if the crash caused the error of those 3 beta WU's or if the WU's crashed my PC. After a restart, two new ones took immediately over and are processing slowly but what seems to be steady so far... Ralf [Edit 1 times, last edit by TPCBF at Nov 10, 2011 4:33:35 AM] |

Got three and a half pages of results in various stages of completion. So far, I only see one inconclusive with many valids. I do, however, see that the older Athlon XP CPUs are still reporting invalid. This isn't surprising as I'm pretty sure this project uses the same program as DSFL does. Short of adding a rule for CPU matching in the distribution code, I don't see a solution other than deselecting this project when it goes live.

Looking over my results I see one error:
----------------------------------------[18:31:03] Finished Job #77 cpu time used 107.470000 [18:31:03] Starting job 78,CPU time is 12128.300000. It will be interesting to see if this replicates on other machines. It's a Phenom IIx6 1100T running Ubuntu. No overclock or anything unusual. I got 4. Two were Error resends. One of these (WU: BETA_BETA_x1j3k_w2WATsNDP_0000017_0858) ended up Inconclusive, requiring a 4th WU to go out. I ended up with the Valid and the first recipient ended up with the Invalid. The second error resend and the other two are still in PV.
----------------------------------------Seems like there are a few problems yet. I'm running on 32-bit Ubuntu (Natty) on an AMD quad-core. [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Nov 11, 2011 1:23:28 AM] |
